Comments about Groove Percussion BD2416MA 5 Piece Drum Set with Cymbals and Hardware:
"I was looking to get into a John Bonham-type kit. I wanted the power and projection of bigger maple drums. i almost bought a Gretsch kit with the 26"" kick (not maple), and almost bought a mapex kit of similar dimension, 24"" kick. i had been playing a smaller Yamaha stage custom set that sounded great, but I wanted more. I took a chance and bought this GP kit because with the drum size and beautiful finish, what is $[...]? The gamble paid off with a few hitches. i sold off the hardware that came with it as it is not too road worthy, and I had much better stuff anyway. The heads that came with the kit on the batter side are not up to snuff, except for the kick. I had both remo black dots and pinstripes for the toms, and put my usual ambassador on the snare. I ended up using the pinstripes on the toms and tuned them up jazz-style with no muffling. The kit was immediately a big volume and power improvement in my small rehearsal space. I did end up putting a 6"" inch hole in the front head of the kick with a support ring, and used minimal muffling on both the front and batter head of the kick. The drums sounded great in our rehearsal space, but that was a choked, sound-deadend environemnt. The snare sounded great initially, but I tune up fairly high, and rim-shot pretty hard. The lugs eventually gave way. I thought the drum was done, but when I took it home and took apart the lugs, I found that the bolt sleeves that come standard are very weak ( what do you expect?). For $15, I got ahold of some heavy duty sleeves for the snare lugs and replaced them all. The only other issue was a relatively cheap throw-off on the snare. With any sort of heavy playing, the throw would start to come off mid-song. I simply used a little tape to keep it on - problem solved. I was not mounting the tom from the kick, but hanging it from a cymbal stand with a clamp. Well...the tom holder on the drum stripped....very cheap stuff. I simply ordered a Yamaha tom mount bracket that required minimal drilling on the tom, and covered all holes and looked very stock. Problems solved! I played out with this kit with these mods for the first time last weekend. We were in a mid-sized room with high ceilings. These drums sounded so unbelievable. I played light, didnt even use my ear plugs, and did not really have to mike anything. These drums sing in a good room. I did mike the snare for reverb purposes, but it was turned way down. I also miked the kick for a subwoofer, but really did not need it. I got so many complements on how good these drums sounded, and how good the maple finish looked under the lights. My band memebers were taken aback. These drums sound so good when tuned right, and in the proper environment. And after only about $50 in mods, the power that these things projected with no miking was incredible. I would put myself up against anyone on a $1500 or $4,000 maple kit and see what sounds better. These are lightweight shells. They probably are maple on the inside and outside with something else on the mid-ply, but as good as these sound, who cares! These were a steal! If you want a deep, powerful kick, and strong, projecting toms that dont even need to be miked, and you dont need a fancy label......this is your winner!"

"I have played many different brands of drums, and in different price ranges and this kit blew me away when I unpacked it. It not only has an excellent finish, but very sturdy hardware, fit and finish is excellent and the sound these drums make is awesome. I play in a very loud rock band, after I got these drums I rehearsed with them with out micing the kit and with the stock crappy heads that came with them and they still sounded great and were noticibaly louder than the other three kits I have which were alot more money. The only down fall as with all new kits are the bad heads that come with them. You will also want to invest in lug locks especially for the snare if you crank it pretty tight like I do.Groove Percussion just made their mark in quality drums, and how they did it for this price I will never know. Especially for a maple kit of this quality."

Comments about Groove Percussion BD2416MA 5 Piece Drum Set with Cymbals and Hardware:
"This is one of the best buys on the market. If you like your kit loud this is the drumset. The bass is very loud, and the snare cuts right through. I found the base drum pedal a little shaky, it had a nice feel, but all of the fiitings were coming loose, even after they were tightned. Other than that this is one great drumset for the money! "

"For those of us who are ""starving musicians"" there comes along some items that reward the havenots of this world. This set of drums is one of them. [...]As a matter of fact, for the money of an upper-end set I was able to buy Groove Percussion's portable road set (GBD3164MA) in addition to this one: all for under $900. and by combining these two beautiful drum sets of natural maple finish, I have a virtual scale of tones from which to choose.
