The last review was mis-informed. there are several falcon models to choose from. This is the model I have. based on the original 1959 model.there is less flash but more substance. the trestle bracing makes it a very solid and feed back resistant guitar. the filtertron pickups are amazing. the straight arm bigsby is stronger than the Chet style thin arm. the ebony fretboard with less inlay is warmer sounding and smoother.

It is different by design not by cost!

I travel for work and have been in 35 states in the last 5 years and stop in every music store I pass. I have played hundreds of guitars. NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO A FALCON.

since FMIC is helping with distribution gretsch has been able to improve on the earlier models with different materials and vintage correct specs. the models that are out now are some of the finest ever produced by anyone at anytime.

I have several modern gretsches and all are amazing.

opinions are fine but dont distort the facts.

The Gretsch Falcon models have always been notorious for the famous "winged" vertical logo on the headstock and the humped block fret markers.
Since Fender's takeover of Gretsch, the famous vertical headstock logo has been replaced with the standard "T roof" horizontal logo and a metal plate, and the fret markers are the standard "thumb" markers.
This greatly detracts from the appearance of the once highly sought after White and Black Falcon models. I would not buy a new one for this reason alone. It's quite clear that Fender is pinching pennies in the production of this guitar but the price remains as high as it's always been. Since the production of Gretsch guitars ceased in the U.S.A. the quality has steadily gotten worse. I own an original 1959 USA made 6120 Nashville and a 1998 Japanese 6118 Tennessee Rose and the difference is a clear as night and day. If you're going to spend that kind of money, buy a Gibson!
