I love this guitar, and I really do not see the advantages being worth the higher priced models, except maybe ego status.

OK, enough people reported the positive things about this guitar, so I agree with them all and won't repeat the same things.

What I will do is speak of some simple modifications that I did. Note that the cable jack is just held in place by a hex-nut. If you use a straight cable plug and lean too hard on it – you will crack or even punch a big hole in the guitar wood, per this is very thin wood there with no inside wood support or bracing.

So, I bought the chrome oval jack plate that you see on most guitars, and installed it. But, I did not use any screws; per I did not wish to weaken this area with additional holes. I just used some rubber glue, which will not hurt the finish at all. And, the chrome jack plate is now like a big washer under the hex-nut. Now, this area has some protection.

I then bought a Monster cable with one end that the jack plug is at a 90 degree angle. This plug reduced the possibility of leaning on a straight plug sticking out.

I also changed out the bridge with a bridge that has a roller for each string. The string rolls smoothly over this bridge when using the Bigsby and the guitar stays in tune a lot better. Each roller can be adjusted for perfect intonation at the 12th fret. Last tip: Once I found the sweet spot for intonation, I used a little of the rubber glue under the wooden bridge base to keep the bridge from sliding. Again, no damage to the finish, and rubber glues is easily removed. Why glue it? Well, when you are palming, the bridge can move and put your guitar out of tune. Plus, when I restring the guitar, there is no worry of the bridge moving.

So, there you go – a great guitar set-up to last a lifetime. But, keep in mind, if you do not have experience working on guitars – ask a Luther to do the work for you.

My next quest is to see, if I can put in a volume control knob that has a built in tuner. That would be great.

I couldn't afford the $2500 big boy Gretsch 6120 so I bought the 5120 Electromatic for the price. Wow, I'm sure glad I did. This guitar makes me smile every time I play it. Great action and feel. Tone out the wazoo. This baby goes as far as you want to.

This guitar is unbelievable. Put this a lot of reverb and you have a great jazz, blues sound. It plays distortion great and is fairly light weight. The Bigsby works really well and feels good. Unbelievable guitar, especially for such a low price. Could easily be $1,500.

joy to own, wonderful playing guitar....only downside is no hardshell case. wish they made one, i'd buy it right now.Aside from that, you wont be unhappy. [*] fine guitar.

This guitar is awesome! For the price, Gretsch has really out done itself. It plays and feels like a much more expensive guitar. I prefer playing it over my other guitars that cost me [$]. The tone is wonderful through my HotRod Deluxe and so much fun through my POD. The Bigsby tremelo is better than I thought it would be. I have had no problems with it going out of tune. Very well made. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for great play and tone. So much fun.

I have only had mine for a short time but I am alreay in love with it! The orange finish is flawless as it the bindings and the chrome against the orange finish is very classy! The tone is good but not as powerful as I would like and I will probably switch the stock pickups for the better Gretsch pickups. And while the bridge is ok I will also swap it for a better one. The jury is still out on the tuners .... maybe, maybe not! A set of good locking ones would improve the tuning stability, although it's not bad the way it is. The pickguard is transparent and does not have the Gretsch logo on it. I have already made a replacement. I improvised on the logo by cutting out the letters by hand and glueing them on the back of the plexiglass and then painted just the back with Valspar Antique White. It's almost a match with the binding and looks great. But even if I didn't change a thing I would still love this guitar! A side note ... my wife thinks it the coolest guitar I own and I have some very nice ones! If you are thinking about getting one ... DO IT!!!

Incredibly fun to play. It sounds fantastic when not plugged in. But it sounds only average plugged in. The whammy and tuners feel really cheap too. Get this guitar and swap out the pickups, tuners, bridge and whammy, and you got a truly amazing guitar still for under $1,000.

I Just played this Guitar today, and I have to say this, Is one of the best i have played, It sounds exactly like an expensive Gretsch, and does not buzz, it has extraordinary pickups and the body is to-die-for! I would extremely recommend this guitar to anyone from Novice to Pro! Dont waste your money on an expensive Gretsch! This is the Guitar!

This is a Gretsch for someone who is on a tight budget but wants a great sounding guitar. My 5120 is black but no matter what color you get, you are getting a very well built guitar with great sound and playability. I use mine on stage and at home. This guitar sounds great without effects, in fact I rarely use any when I play live or even at home because it sounds so great. Yes kids, you can add some distortion and it will rock the loud stuff too. No matter if you are hard rockin or playin clean this guitar is my baby and I will be buying other Gretsch guitars in the future. This is a must have guitar. You can now have a champagne taste on a beer budget
