Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case

The Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar retains much of its original specs , including the same legendary body style and construction of the guitar that was originally slated to be the second edition of the Les Paul model 50 years ago. While that plan became (thankfully) temporary, the SG went on to become one of the most recognizable, iconic guitars in popular music history, and appeared on numerous history altering recordings. The Gibson SG Standard carries that 50 year tradition straight into the future.

The unmistakably classic double-cutaway body is carved from mahogany and retains its lightweight, thin, beveled edge design. A set-in mahogany neck features a full, rounded 50’s style profile that will provide incomparable player comfort. The baked maple fingerboard is topped off with 22 frets and classic Gibson trapezoid-shaped inlays.

The electronics schematic remains true to the classic SG/Les Paul formula, with a pair Gibson USA Humbuckers, along with a 3-way switch. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls. The Tune-O-Matic Bridge/stopbar tailpiece combo provides maximum tuning stability. Finally, a protective, Gibson hardshell case is included.

After reading many bad reviews on this guitar due to Gibson quality control, I can say it's totally true. I received my brand new SG standard yesterday, beautiful guitar and case, unfortunately the neck pickup and dual pickup mode didn't even work on toggle switch, only treble. Yeah, yeah, I know I would probably only use treble mostly anyway, but I refuse to pay my hard earned money on a brand new guitar that don't even work, especially a company like Gibson, who is supposed to be the holy grail of guitar making, and make us all pay insane amounts of money for their quality made guitars.

How can Gibson drop so low? The fingerboard grabs you and won't let go, and the pickups make you not want to care.
This is not the Gibson of 10 years ago; tho we look for better we find junk. Time for Gibson to decide wheather it wants to build a top guitar or just fade away. Looks like they already decided, actually. Get ready for buyer's remorse. On the plus side, it's no big deal if you drop one :=)

The SG Standard I purchased is wonderful (looks, sustain) except for one major flaw I discovered after I brought it home: The frets are tapered too much on their ends resulting in the inability to bend the high E string without pulling it off the fretboard. I guess that's what the warranty is for. Also, the pickups in this particular guitar seem wimpy. Otherwise, the guitar would be one of the nicest I have.

I absolutely love this guitar, the sound is truly outstanding and the pickups are some of the best ive ever seen. This guitar may seem a little expensive but it is definitaley worth the extra money to get this one. I use this product for playing shows, rehearsing, jazz, metal, blues, classic and modern rock, and anything else that comes up for me to play. once I got this guitar my love for the instrument has increased and i am always satisfied with this instrument. if you want an all around great instrument this is the one to buy. the only problem I have with this guitar is the being able to keep in tune. so if you do get this guitar I prefer just to use very strong and sturdy strings.

I've owned this guitar for four years and used it for gigs and recording. It's a great, reliable instrument with good sound and solid construction.

The issues I have with it are that for the price, you could get a much better instrument. The stock Gibson pickups are muddy and weak, and replacing them could cost you $200. After owning Fenders and Japanese shred-god brands I can't shake my dislike for the thick neck.

My recommendation is to either save yourself some money and get a Fender spalted Tele, or risk being made fun of by your friends and get a superior instrument in an ESP Standard. It's a great stick, don't get me wrong, but the Gibson logo isn't worth the cash it tags onto the value of this guitar.
