Gibson takes the SG into the darkness with the SG Gothic Morte Electric Guitar. Still retaining the classic SG design, Gibson has added a few updated features to add to the ominous vibe of this guitar. The mahogany body is finished in Satin Ebony Nitro-Cellulose. The pickups are brand new GEM (Gibson Electronics Manufacturing) active humbuckers. Sonically, these new humbuckers are similar to Burstbuckers, but the active electronics boost output and are extremely resistant to noise.
The SG Gothic Morte sports a mahogany neck with the SG rounded profile, and the fingerboard is the exotic African Obeche. African Obeche is a dark, dense alternative to Ebony, and is fully sustainable. As used on the Les Paul Gothic Morte, the African Obeche fingerboard carries no inlays or binding to the no-frills vibe. In addition to the guitar's Satin Ebony nitrocellulose finish, the SG Morte wears a black Tune-o-matic bridge with a black stopbar tailpiece, black Grover tuners, and a black Corian nut which has been precision cut for optimum intonation.
