Just like all Gibson Thunderbirds since 1963, the updated Nikki Sixx Signature Model Thunderbird IV carries on the tradition of neck-through-body construction, long noted for its exceptional strength and stability. Nikki Sixx personally chose a solid center made from select mahogany and walnut anchored by two figured AA-grade maple wings, and given an exclusive Satin Black Cherry finish. Nikki also chose a mirrored pickguard embellished with Sixxs signature and a pair of “X”s in red. Those same “X”s also act as fret markers along the ebony fingerboard, and the neck gets Gibson’s traditional Thunderbird rounded profile.
The Nikki Sixx Signature Model Thunderbird IV is equipped with Gibson TB plus ceramic magnet humbuckers with black covers, which deliver a powerful, rumbling bass tone, perfectly suited to the massive bass lines Nikki Sixxis known for. The bass includes a custom Nikki Sixx-designed “opti-Grab” bracket near the bridge that he uses to hold the bass while roaming the monster Crue stage.
