I own a older R212 and had problems with overheating,and speakers going out in the middle of a gig..so..needless to say..I considered it a poor designed amp,not up to the fender name(heck its 12 years old) I was having my Ampeg Reverberocket 2 serviced at my local guitar shop,and needed a loner amp for a job that night,
the shop owner pulled a Frontman 212R out of the box,and told me to run it for the job that night...the new verson of the old 212R is really a improvement..better speakers,and the clear channel is real close to the sounds one would get from a quality tube amp..its very close to my old twin reverb(yes..I said it!) It has alot of punch for a soild state,but the 2 drive channels do need some help..a good set of pedals work wonders!
I do not know why they did not put a aux speaker jack in the back to run a cabnet also?
Needless to say..I bought that Frontman 212R,had the tech put a aux speaker jack in the back.. so
between the solid state 100 watt fender,and my old
workhorse Ampeg 50 watt AB Tube rig..I'm Set!
Buy the Fender! I Did!

Clean channel rules. Distortion is lacking in my book. Go out and buy an overdrive/distortion pedal and you've got a rockin' rig. Loud. I've played fairly large sized rooms and haven't turned up past 4.

i used this amp where my 15g falls short and where my 4x12 is inpractical, the amp can go as loud as i need it to ( as loud as id put my 4x12) but i tend not to put it past 5 where i can help it. i use it where my 15 watt isnt enough, so basicly when i play with/for people, and its enough to play with a band as long as your not in a huge outdoor area or a concert theather with tonnes of people, i would personally try not to run it at 10 because i dont trust fender 100% yet, but im confident it can do it nicely

I bought this amp about six mounths ago & it is made in China. It is a very basic and simple amp as far as its operation & features are concerned. I always perfer simple operation as it helps me to get my desired sound without any extra effort & unnecessary experimentation. Features are very limited in this amp as there is only Reverb effect available in it. No worries as there are hundreds of effect pedals available in the market ready to get connected with this amp to achieve your desired/dreamed sound. I found its Clean channel very impressive with lot of richness, sufficient warmth & clearity. The Drive & More drive channels are equally good and these channels are capable of producing almost all sort of high quality distortion/overdrive sounds. I have noticed that its More drive channel works more effectively with enhanced response of its built-in Touch-senstive feature by using the effects loop, although this arrangement reduces the overall volume level somewhat but it is not a big issue. I have used both humbucking & single coil pickup guitars on this amp and it responds very well. I did not like its Reverb sound quality and would probably replace it or use the Boss digital reverb pedal RV-5. My set up mostly consist of Boss pedals like compressor CS-2, Distortion DS-1, Phaser PH-2, Graphic equalizer GE-7, Chorus CE-5, Delay DD-3 in front of amp & RV-5 connected into the effect loop. Also thinking to add the BBE sonic maximizer stomp box with it. I mostly use its Clean channel & tested it on Jam sessions to medium live situations and it deserves good marks. In my opinion it works expectionally well by using single-effect pedals. I think this a wise purchase comparing to its price and overall quality.

Ok kids, this is one of those amps that will surprise you. There is reverb and you have over drive and for the wicked and nasty stuff you have distortion or more drive as this amp likes to call it. 2 channels to do most all of the stuff you might do when you play. I use this at all my gigs when I play guitar and steel and sometimes my fiddle. This is a great amp with lots of volume too. It is not too heavy to carry to the truck after the show either. The power cord comes out so you can put it in your gig bag and this is good so you do not damage it when you take it home after the show. Fender did a great job on this amp as usual. It is just the right size for a working musician. And it will get the job done too.

I am the proud owner of this fine amp,having bought it several months ago after my beloved Princeton 65(RIP)died out on me.This amp is POWERFUL!Whoever said that this is just a glorified practice amp oughta have his head examined.This amp does it all,from Blues to Metal,it covers all the bases.This is my main amp and I am proud to admit it.Thank You Fender!

This amp rules I use it in my basement and it shakes the floor on 5 which is pretty cool. I totally recommend this amp exect it could use better distortion.

So far I've had it for more than a year and sound great. I dropped it a couple of times, but its pretty durable. Its just a basic practice amp, very loud, and with the right pedals and effects, you can really craft your tone.

"I bought this via an exchange for my first attempt, a Fender 25R. The 25 watter was OK, but really sounded thin with my Ibanex RG. In retrospect, it was probably more the guitar than the amp since I have subsequently acquired the 212R and a Vox 30 W Valvetronix and notice some of the same tone issues, depending on amp settings. The difference is the 212 R (and the Vox) have more power and more adjustability. The 212R is built really solid. Very impressive. The clean channel is hard to beat. Compared to the 25R, the reverb is not as pronounced but it is still great. The distortion is fine, regardless of what you read -- provided you go for a more classic rock sound than some of the newer heavy metal distortion. My tastes lean towards the former, so I like this amp's sound very much. I don't turn up the overdrive past 4-5. I will admit it is somewhat frustrating dialing in the distortion/reverb sound you want initially. But this amp has the ""more drive"" in addition to the channel 2 distortion, and it provides you with all you need to get a good sound. Experiment with it a while and it sounds great. Not to mention, the power and volume are incredible. As a brief comparison, this amp is way better built than the Vox -- it is solid, both the cabinet and the controls. And a couple of the amps the Vox emulates sound just like the 212R so that tells me a lot. I like the Vox, but this Fender is an excellent combination of power, sound and durability that the Vox can't match. No effects here (other than reverb) but that is what I wanted in this Fender. If you are into classic rock, give this amp a try. If you are heavy metal, give this amp a try and buy a distortion pedal."
