The Telecaster family went through an expansion in 1972 with the introduction of the Telecaster Deluxe, and a new version of the Telecaster Custom. The original Telecaster Customs were stock versions of the Telecaster that added double-binding along the body edges and first appeared in 1959. In an effort to compete with other famous electrics that feature humbucking pickups, Fender introduced their own version of the humbucker resulting in the Wide Range humbucker, designed by Seth Lover. The Wide Range Humbucker produces a bright, unique sound with power to spare. Paired with an American Vintage single-coil Telecaster bridge pickup, this Telecaster possesses a very unique voice and has been heavily associated with some of rock & roll’s biggest icons. Fender’s American Vintage ’72 Telecaster Custom boasts a Solid Ash body with a period-correct early-’70s 1 piece gloss lacquer finish maple neck with a three-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt™ adjustment, bullet truss rod nut and vintage-style “F” tuners. The neck is carved into a C-shaped profile, and the 21 fret maple fingerboard has a vintage style 7.25” radius.
