Nikki Sixx has a bit of a reputation. I own 2 of these and both blow your socks off through my ampeh 115 and my basson 810 cab. I couldn't be happier with this bass. It has a great feel to it and makes you look like a rock star!!

I bought this bass afew months ago after playing several others. The DeepSixx pickups have great depth and tone. As far as not being able to get a good tone out of them, any bass player with a professional rig uses an EQ anyway. As far as it being heavy, try picking up a Schecter neck through or a Precision Bass. This bass is lightweight and looks and sounds great. Definately NOT a dud.

I was told about 3 weeks ago, that my local music shop would be ordering a Nikki Sixx Blackbird for a customer. Being good friends with the owner, he called me up in order to give this bass a test run, and find any tweaks or issues with the bass itself.

At first, this bass LOOKED amazing. The black finish really made me want it, along with the Thunderbird design. However, when I saw the fact that it was missing a tone, and even a volume knob, I was instantly turned away from it. However, the old saying goes, "not to judge a book by it's cover." I tried it anyway.

Plugging into an Ampeg 100 watt combo amp, with Eq flat, I noticed a few things about this bass. The first thing, it's heavy. It didn't balance too well in the strap, making me sit down to play it. Next, it's tone. It had a harsh, aggressive attack to it. Pretty much ideal for a lot of hard rock, and metal. Not much else.

However, even trying to get different tones using the EQ settings was near impossible, so it was stuck on that harsh tone, pretty much setting in stone what your allowed to play, if one might say. The kill switch, unnecessary. I gave it back to the owner, in upset.

This bass was overall, a disappointment. While it looked like a winner, turns out beauty is only skin deep. This bass was not made to perform. Slap a volume and tone knob in it, and we have a deal. Going back and forth from your amp to try and adjust tone and volume? Not gonna fly. Sorry Mr. Sixx, this bass is a dud.

This bass can be explained in three simple words
Dependability, Simplicity, and Rock-ability

1. I am a touring musician, and own three of these, they have never let me down in over 150 shows over three tours. This guitar took every heavy hit, fluid, and abuse that can be thrown at a bass and kept on rock'n.

2. The controls are simpler then the instructions on shampoo. One switch, means plug in and turn on... no useless tone knobs, no pointless EQ'S, no stupid things to tie you up on a dark stage.

3. The neck, and pick ups, are just pure bliss to play, It is that perfect union of materials that make for a great bass. Awesome neck inlays and it's painted the only color a bass should ever be; FLAT BLACK. Don't let the 'Made In Korea' sticker fool you... This baby is going to play better then many of your American made'.

Oh, and did I mention it was all designed by the Rock God Nikki Sixx.

I've been playin' bass for about 10 years now, and I've gone through my share of bases. But this one is by far THE BEST I've ever touched. The feel, sound, looks, and EVERYTHING else about it is PERFECT. I've made up my mind, and I'm stickin' to Epiphone/Gibson basses. Nothing can even compare to the wicked tone, playability, adn feel of the Thunderbird.

I've tried almost every bass out there, been playing since 1988. If you like a deep powerful bass sound and killer looks this bass is the one. I honestly love to play this bass, once you get used to the shape. Rock on, get this bad boy.
