Epiphone's Alleykat is one cool rockabilly machine! It's got a mahogany body with a flame maple top, set-in maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard with block inlays. Check out those covered pickups - a '57 at the bridge and a "New York" mini humbucker at the neck. Not only do you get a wide variety of tonal colors, but it makes this a great guitar for lovers of blues, rock, country, and jazz as well. Additional features include an adjustable bridge with stoptail and a set of vintage style tuners. Case not included.

I bought the AlleyKat at SamAsh because I wanted a hollowbody or semi-hollowbody, and SamAsh was the only retailer that still carried them new. For the price, this axe is unbelievable! The craftsmanship is top-notch for an Epiphone, and i love the jumbo block pearl inlays on the fret board. The action had to be raised slightly due to some fret buzz, and the intonation needed adjusting (but you don't often buy a guitar that doesn't need that initial set-up). Every day I love this baby more! It has great tone, and I can get a variety of different sounds out of it. The mini-humbucker and '57 humbucker combo is awesome. A lot of people swap out the stock pups first on Epis, but these ones are staying on my Kat! The best part is the reversed wiring (like an old Gretsch) to include a Master Volume knob, so you can get some volume effects without changing the volume for each individual pickup. The downside to it is that you're stuck with only one tone knob for both pups, but you still can get a wealth of different tones from the guitar. Even unplugged it has a pretty decent acoustic boom, for when I'm not accessible to my amp. Bottom line: pick this up while you still can! They have been discontinued for over a year.

This alleykat is a fantastic guitar! Mine has some very minor cosemtic blemishes, but I'd rather have that than pay another $2,000 for Gibson. There is a small line of glue at the neck joint of the fingerboard (between the neck pup and the fretboard), and some very minor binding & finishing issues.
The pro's far outweight these issues. The fretwork is very well done, the cherry sunburst looks great, and the electronics are solid (no hissing or buzzing).
Now for the pup's...they sound very good! I have a set of Seymour Duncan's in another axe, and side-by-side there is no lack of tone, muddyness, or "thin" sound. Making a pup is not rocket science, and being a division of Gibson (and being superior to them in the 30's!)I honestly think they know what they are doing!
Blindfolded, I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference between this and any high dollar semi-hollowbody electric guitar.
Epiphone is no longer making this great axe, which is too bad. I am planning on buying a Wildkat next!

Mini and regular humbuckers. Three volume; one for each hum., one master that controls both, one tone.
Set the two vol. for hums and run master volume for both. Faster than going to each as usual.
Paint is really thin, so don't bump it on anything.
Good quality for the price.
Gives you a semi-acoustic sound.
Smooth fret board and frets do not cut.

I JUST GOT THIS GUITAR IN CHERRY SUNBURST AND LET ME TELL YOU....IT IS A SWEET AXE...THE WORKMANSHIP IS A 10....AND HAVING THAT MINI-HUMBUCKER IN THE NECK POSITION IS THE BEST...I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE SOUND OF THE MINIS...AND THIS WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN....FIT AND FINISH IS GREAT AND THE NECK IS TO DIE FOR...ABSOLUTELY A GREAT DEAL....GET ONE BEFORE THEY DISCONTINUE THESE...ENJOY!!...LATER
