The Cardinal is a cardioid condenser mic perfectly tailored to capture vocals, but its usefulness doesn’t stop there; its also a great mic for toms, overhead drums, worldly percussion or anything that demands to be recorded in full-range detail. The EV Cardinal employs a class A discrete amp along with a self-biased condenser element making for a mic that captures a wide range of frequencies with excellent transient response characteristics, yet exhibiting ultra-low noise.

It has a great proximity effect when your vocal sound requires that extra low-end boost. The closer you get to the Cardinal’s grille the more prominent the bass response — really very versatile. Back off a bit to lessen the effect. Very useful when mixing together lead and background vocal tracks… different colors to play with, all from the same microphone!

Tiny Diapragm in Oversized Housing

I just received mine not ten minutes ago. I opened up the thing to get a better look at what was going on with the diaphragm. It's...TINY. It's like opening the hood of a used Corvette that had been advertised as "Runs great!" and finding a Geo Metro engine that does, in fact, run well.

Honestly, if you have another hundred dollars buy a Rode NT1A. It is 10x better than any mic at or around its price. This mic is okay but has a tiny hiss to it. I am a perfectionist so it bothered me. Plus I paid almost $300 for it because I was in Alaska and had no other choice. I needed it that day. The Cardinal has a good look to it if that's what your in to. I recorded Cello, Acoustic Guitar, and vocals with it. It does a fair job. Much better than a Shure SM58 for recording purposes. But does not even come close to a Rode NT1A.

First paycheck i went ahead and bought ev's cardinal mic. With the right mixing you can get professional vocals with this mic. It also works as a great tom/snare mic and with micing bass cabs.

I wouldn't reccommend this mic for a live show do it being very touchy and fragile, but it still sounds amazing.

I bought this mic about a year ago to record the vocals for some of my songs, and let me say that i could not be more pleased with the sound quality and it is effortless to to work. just plug in and go. I love this mic. If your gonna record or play a live show you will not be dissapointed.
