Made just like the axe of Alexi Laiho, guitarist of metal meisters Children of Bodom, this is a fierce guitar in both appearance and sound! Its chiseled alder body is finished with a striking stripe design, and is paired with a thru-body, 3-piece maple neck complete with a bound 24-fret ebony fingerboard and sawtooth inlays. Tonal power? No worries here, thanks to a single EMG-HZ H4 pickup in the bridge postition. Other top-flight features include an original Floyd Rose tremolo, Gotoh tuners, and Schaller strap locks. The neck just REALLY feels natural in the hand. The gauge that came on the guitar was a bit light in my taste. I noticed buzzing too.
Once I strung new strings in the gauge Alexi actualy uses onto it, the buzzing went away; which means they are actualy intonating them to Alexi's settings but puting cheap strings on them! (WIERD).

The action is great, it feels best standing up (like a Dean ML rests on your body when you're standing).
Despite it's size, it's actualy feels quite light and you can stand with it for hours on stage.
I removed the back plate covering the springs (as Alexi does). I noticed a BIG improvement on my bends because the cavity is shallow, and when you bend the trem it causes the trem block to hit the back plate. So just remove the plastic cavity cover-plate.

The pickup is the best EMG makes and the Active gain on it helps notes get focused and more pronounced. Of course, active pickups don't have alot of character... but that's Lexi for you.
Oh! If you want to improve this guitar, Buy the BLACKOUT pickups available right here at Sam Ash. GREAT add-on if you plan to buy this guitar and play EXACTLY what Alexi uses on stage.

ps: the tuners are the only difference between the ESP model and the LTD model, so buy the LTD and change the tuners for alot less... if you REALLY want to get technical.

Alright, so I played one of these bad boys today, and its a good guitar. Nice thin neck, neck through body, frictionless frets. It is suprisingly light, and has an OFR. Downside? No neck pickup, that's all. For the styles it was designed for, neck pickups are questionable but it makes a difference to me. Also, that emg hz is nice. Tons of people buy this guitar and swap it for 81's , which isnt neccesary if you are going for Alexi's sound. He DOES us the hz. And it squeals nicely

Man, I've been using ESP guitars for a while now, and I tell you, go and buy this guitar, if you can't afford this buy the LTD, is really good too, my band mate Roope Latvala uses ESP guitars too, so we get that really melodic sound with the best axes out there! Greetings from Finland!

This guitar is really, really good. i bought it a while back and i've never really regretted it too much. the bridge works fantastically and the emg-hz squeals and grunts with distortion beautifully. the reason i gave it a 4 is that it only has one pickup. i figure, it wouldnt hurt to have two. only for metal this is good. but really if you want to play other things too think twice. i used to be all like YEAH ILL GET ONE POT AND ONE PICKUP but looking at the eclipses...damn...oh well.
