The Playmate gives you a way to stay in style when you're unplugged. Made from mahogany, with a select spruce top for an even, projecting tone. The neck is mahogany with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard for great range. Then Dean added a unique-cut rosewood bridge for a striking look. To capture the nuances of your performance, it's equipped with a passive Piezo system. Case not included.

I bought this instrument to add to a contemporary church music band. It took a LONG time to get it, when I did finally get it, the strings seemed rusty. Yes it has fret buzz and you must be gentile or you get CLUNK,,,but with a little time and patience its a nice instrument. It is a pleasent addition to the band and its put together in a way that I think will let it last some time.
As I said, You get what you pay for, and this is an OK deal for the price.

I bought this bass to try out bass and because my wife said I could get it for her as she might want to use it. She has since said that bass is a boring instrument in general but still plays this a bit. I've been playing guitar for about four years and wanted a low risk instrument to try out so we decided to go with this one since at [...]$ we wouldn't be out much. After playing a much more expensive Ibanez in a pawn shop while waiting for this one (note: always check availability when you buy) I started to get scared. The Ibanez, that cost new about 3x as much, sounded terrible and did not seem to be all that solidly built. When the Dean finally arrived I was pleasantly surprized. A little fret buzz at first but otherwise great (if a bit quiet) sound and beautiful, simple, and solid construction. A great bass for a beginner who doesn't want to invest a lot and yet still wants an instrument they won't want to throw away . The plus of the acoustic over an electric is there is no investment in an amp while you learn. Later you may want one, but for starters you can just pick up and play. Bottom line a great basic bass for very little cash.
