[...] Since the store did not have the Epiphone, I took a chance and bought the Epiphone ES-175 online and got it from FedEx on a Saturday!!!!!This guitar plays extremely well. I read a few reviews and noticed a lot of people changed strings to flat wound strings, so I bought a set and re-strung the guitar. I am not going to go into too much detail, but the feel and tone blended together nicely.I make it a habit to practice for about an hour per day. I change strings often. If I break one, typically I change the whole set. Since these are more expensive, I will have to bite the bullet when I make my monthly change or I will delay my change a week or two.Word to the wise- If you own multiple instruments, write down on a calendar the guitar you are re-stringing and the brand of strings you used (including the gauges). Good string cleaning after each use will make a world of difference.

One day, while shoping for strings to replace a Zakk Wylde set of string I never even tried to play on (too bright), I saw the Chromes. I've always been a huge fan of D'Addario's products and the Chromes, with their ribbon (flat) winding seemed like something I'd like. So I bought them.

I can safely say that for my own personal tone and for just pure enjoyment, I will use no other strings. The Chromes are beyond wonderful. The start out super slick and very comfortable. I use a little Fast Fret and they are almost non-exsistant on fret changes. No squeal. Easy on the fingers.

They are a much mellower string. Not nearly as bright as a round wound string. They are also much stiffer to bend in my opinion.

One set is on my hardtail Strat with a single humbucker. Another is on a Epiphone Les Paul Gothic with factory liscensed Floyd Rose tremolo. On the Strat, they are very clear and punchy. On the paul, when tuned way down, they are alittle sloppy. I tuned it BEADF#B initially, but think that the next heavier set of strings would be better. These strings would probably be best no lower than C.

All in all, short of having a guitar for a specifc sound (in other words, not my own tone) I wouldn't use anything else. These are simply the nicest strings I've used, even including the numerous other sets of D'Addario strings I've used.

Occasionally I'll try something else, and I always come right back to D'Addario.
