Its a great pedal and it has a decent sound. Now its a good pedal and doesnt use up a lot of battery unless you leave the cords plugged into the side. This is a very effective pedal. I love to play Metallica because I am a giant Metallica freak. It sounds great for playing the Black Album songs as in Enter Sandman.

OK, so everyone here is pretty much writing solid reviews. But I am going to tell you the honest truth about this pedal. If you are just practicing, I guess it's alright. It's actually a pretty solidly built pedal, and it will last. The bad thing about this pedal is the functioning if your playing a show. First, the reason you are buying this pedal is so that you can go from clean to distortion, or vise-versa, with ease while the distortion still sounds good. Well, here is the problem. The pedal does NOT have a good distortion tone unless you turn the volume knob up on your guitar, which i virtually impossible when playing a show. Second, cranked at it's highest level of distortion, the pedal does not provide enough dirty tone. Third, if you are going from clean to distortion, the sound usually messes up. Usually the distortion sound will be a lot louder (or sometimes softer) than the clean tone, and then your playing sounds bad. So, overall, I would rate this pedal a 2.5. If you want a legit pedal, get the Boss Metalcore MR-2. I think that is it?[$] The sound is great on that and its easy and great to use. I would defiantly buy that one over this. So if you have the money, but the other pedal.

If you're new to pedals, this is a no-brainer. It's a solid, good quality distortion pedal at a bargain price. It provides good quality modern distortion sounds for rock, punk, alternative and progressive genres. It is NOT a good choice if you're looking for a vintage sound or if you're a jazz or lounge musician looking for a light distortion. It's still pretty present with the drive all the way down, but doesn't get to the metal/hardcore zone with the drive all the way up. In that sense, it's a bit generic. But if you play rock often, this is a solid choice.

I've been playing Violin for several years now, but of course as a serious musician, i've also been working on guitar and bass. I got this pedal for Christmas and it is phenomenal. I'm a big fan of metal and basically all types of rock so i tend to want a heavy sound kind of like those bands. If you want a hardcore shred metal sound turning up the tone and distortion works great, but i have a sinking feeling in my gut that a metal core or fuzz would just be overall more "hardcore". But given it's much less expensive price than the other named pedals, it's great, i couldn't find any cons, except maybe that the AC adapter and short cables to connect it to other effects aren't included, but as far as performance it's spectacular.

The Boss DS1 Distortion guitar Pedal works great! I play in my youth worship team and the sound is awesome. It has that nice hardcore sound if you want to rock out but if you want a nice warmer sound you can have that too. This was my first pedal. If you are looking for a good distortion pedal you should get this!

I have used this pedal to simulate the Tape Saturation Sound that you hear on classic rock and electronic recordings of the 70's and 80's. I recorded a single channel of distortion from this pedal, and used it in the final mix of a minimal techno track. The final result is amazing, it does sound like I recorded my track on an expensive reel to reel machine. You will never believe that this [$] pedal, will give you such an extraordinary sound. I truly recommend the Boss DS-1, it's outstanding!!!!
