Software Samplers
Translator™ led the way 3 years ago in reading proprietary hardware sampler CD's and hard drives, and making those sounds available for the new breed of computer-driven samplers. Gigasampler's power was unlocked by Translator's initial support over two years ago. HALion translations were released the day after it was released. The first software sampler, Seer System's Reality, is still only supported by Translator and no one else.

Software samplers have been slow to amasse the programmability of hardware samplers, so Translator led the way in innovative designs that unlocked those features that other programs are just now discovering. Features like bidirectional and reverse looping, multi-stage envelope algorithms, and many more. Translator was the first to offer EXS-24 translations that truly stuffed more elaborate parameters into the global scheme of the EXS. Even today, Translator offers more accurate translations across the board than any other program.
Hardware Samplers
Although software samplers are unique, hardware samplers aren't dying. They are still preferred for live gig's and still retain their place in studios from the pro's to amatuers.
Translator is alone in not only reading but writing to proprietary disks like the ones mentioned above. It pioneered the concept of Virtual Drives, enabling users to transfer and translate a number of formats onto an image that could be burned onto a CD-R for use in their Akai, Emu, Ensoniq, and other hardware samplers. Nowadays other programs are picking up on the concept, but Translator has had it since the beginning.
Translator supports all the new breed of DOS-format hardware samplers, such as the Akai-5000/Z-Series, Korg Triton, Roland XV-5080, Akai MPC, Ensoniq ASR-X, and others. Translator is still the only program that really writes EXACT compatible files for these samplers, as opposed to the cookie cutter approach taken by other competing programs.
