Two years ago I became interested in buying a guitar for myself. I looked on sam ash.com to find the right one. For some reason, the Brownsville New York guitar was at the top of the list and at a cheap price. I ended up buying it because the manager at the store said it was a good buy for beginners but i should have gone with my cousin who has played guitar for over 8 years to help me buy a guitar. When i brought it home, it seemed ok. however, when i first tuned it the lower e string broke. i mean it is ok for beginners but i would start out with an acoustic and consult a friend who plays guitar.

My grandfather got me this guitar because it was the cheapest one in the store. Needless to say it's horrible, I've had to rewire it, reinstall screws, and set it up several times (between string changes). I gave it to a friend and the jack has fallen off, the tremolo sticks, and he is afraid to tune it, let alone play it, because its constantly detuning and eats strings. When I've changed the strings they've been stuck/rusted in the tremolo and I've had to lubricate the holes the strings go into. These guitars come with screwed up tremolos because it has never been mishandled. The string trees have rusted to the point of snapping, and for about a month the knobs decided to not work.

Would not recommend. Just a side note, Brownsville is not a real company, there is no such company that could call itself anything and stand behind these products. A guitar and the occasional bass show up once in a while in Sam Ash, otherwise, this brand does not exist.

i got this guitar for free and replaced the pickups with 2 dimarzzios. I lowered the action and belive it or not this is a great guitar!

IT has some problems every once in a while like flat sound sometimes. Other than that it is a very good guitar and i would buy more brownsville guitars!

This is a great little guitar! [...] I like the lightweight feel of it. The neck is actually pretty good! Sound? well If there is one true thing in life...it's that you get what you pay for! No, this does not sound like a high dollar Fender, Jackson or any other well known maker that you would hope for. What it does sound like is a little something to whet your whistle while you or your kid learn to play...before spending serious $$$$ on a guitar that ends up sitting in the closet cause you don't have the time to dedicate to it(or your kid decides to play the drums instead!) Anyways I bought this for myself and ended up giving it to my to my son to take to lessons after his $[...] guitar took a crap (I think he actually screwed it up!). Yes, I do have some other guitars with those brand names but I don't have to worry about him screwing those ones up too while he learns! Overall its a great starter axe...It's got a little style to it and it has a descent sound. Would I buy another one? maybe when my 4 year old is ready!

replace the strings and its a perfect guitar....I would suggest for metal/rock players DHS Boomers and anything else Dean Markley or D' Addario
