I bought this for a "knock-around" guitar so I could keep my other Taylor at home. This is a surprising instrument for the money. It sounds great and has more volume than you'd expect from a smaller body size. I just wish Taylor would offer a hardshell case and an electric version of this guitar.

This guitar is the best instrument I've ever put into my hands. I don't actually own the product yet, but on the online store I found a Fender guitar I really liked. I hadn't checked it out in a nearby store. When I finally went to check it out, I found It wasn't what I thought it would be. One of the guys that work there showed me the "Big Baby Acoustic Guitar." I tried it out, and WOW!!!! What a great feel!!! It melted it my hands, so I put it on lay-a-way, and I'm making payments over time. I love this guitar!!!! I don't want to even think about buying a different guitar. It doesn't have a hook up whole built in. But you can buy something that picks up the sound and plugs into an amp [$] It sounds so awesome plugged up or not. I don't even know how to describe it. I cannot wait to get this guitar on my hands again!!!

I will agree word by word to all the other review listed on top. You play 10 guitars and you hold this and you play....you know the difference right away. It just stand out...the name is mis leading for a Big Baby... its loud crisp and clear...

I love this guitar such great action and feel. Don't be scared of the name I am a grown man 6'1 I bought this guitar because I have thick small hands. So i was looking for a neck with good movement and I found it. The sound is great the low end is still real good. I play with a guy that plays a epiphone ej 200 jumbo body and the big baby hangs in there with it. The craftsmanship is as good as the other taylors. I love this guitar the only compliant I have is it came with exliur strings which in my opinion did not play well so i got the martin fx phosphors bronze stings and they play great love the sound. Overall I would be this guitar again.

This is the 2nd review of the Taylor Big Baby I've submitted because I feel it is absolutely warranted to impress upon the buying public that this is an awsome instrument! I gave the guitar high praise in my first review and I must impress that that has not changed at all. If anything, this instrument has got better over the past few months the more I play it.
I can not tell you enough what a dream to play this little mosnter is. It is the first ax I grab when I practice or sit down to really play. Some of my other stable have been getting less and less play time since I had the basic set up on my Big Baby.
The more this little guitar is played the better it plays and sounds. The engineering and attention to performance and function becomes more impressed upon you with each stroke of your pick or pluck of the finger. I swear you will never get a value more worth your dollar than this little Taylor Big Baby! It is AWSOME!
I usually don't submit a 2nd review and don't know if this one will be allowed or not, but if it is... take it to the bank that when I say dollar for dollar this instrument will be some of the best money you ever spend on a musical instrument, I mean it.
With the Elixur 12- 53 phosphor bronze strings on it this ax has a sustain that is unmatched... the bass is full and not overpowering. The mids and trebs are clear as a crystal bell! Finger picked or played hard with a pick, this little flat top delivers and then some.
It is what it is folks... an outstanding acoustic guitar for under the half century price! That means no hard shell case (which if shopped for can be found at a reasonable aftermarket price), and no electronics (again... if desired can be found reasonably priced depending on what you want). Otherwise, this is an outstanding basic acoustic guitar that by far surpasses it's price range in quality and performance.
This is a professional grade instrument at an entry level price folks. This is one instrument that you will not ever suffer buyers' regret over once you own it and play it. I hope this review helps who ever reads it.
Remember to properly humidify and store your instruments to keep them in top shape!

I've owned 4 other various Taylor guitars over the past 10 years and after a while became some what disillusioned with them. Older and a little brighter (?) now, I realize that a lot of that wasn't the instruments fault, but I drifted to various other brands and have a small collection of Martins now. But I have a weak spot for Taylors.
About a week ago I stopped in at my local Guitar shop and just to be different picked up a Taylor "Big Baby" hanging in the quiet room and started playing it. Did I get a shock!
This little guitar was SWEET! Unbelievable projection and volume from such a small package. Comfortable to play (I favor 000 size) nice neck that frets very nicely and accurately. Very nice tone and timbre to this little jewel as well. I sat and played for a couple hours and really began to appreciate this little guitar. The price tag was low, and I began scheming a way to afford this sweet little axe.
Local Sam Ash solved that for me when they announced a preferred customer sale offering the guitar at 20% off the original price. Heh, heh.
Well, my new Big Baby is home now and being played to death along with my other axes. Taylor scored big with this one. For next to nothing in the guitar world you can own a Taylor that in my experience plays and sounds every bit as good as or maybe better than some of the full size and a "LOT" more expensive brothers and sisters out there.
The point is, Taylor is in my opinion competing very well against or with the other guys out there which makes it a buyers market when you have those kinds of choices. My biggest gripe and I just went through this with a new Martin too, is improper factory set up leaving one with some minor fret buzz. Easy to correct, but in my opinion a sloppy problem that should be dealt with before the instrument ever leaves the factory.
Nice gig-bag but I prefer a good case and will snag one in the very near future. Otherwise, I'm tickled to death to have a sweet Taylor back in my stable and will probably keep this one along with my Martins. They all have their own voice, and the Taylor (with good strings)is a guitar to be reckoned with. She's going to be a working ax since I'm hoping to get a small coffee shop band of old farts together and out playing again.
Even at the standard price, this is a Taylor worth every penny of what you pay for it and then some. If you like the Taylor sound, look and feel then you will not be disappointed. Remember to humidify your guitars too folks. Properly cared for they will always sound and play great!
Would I recommend a Taylor Big Baby? You bet! Beginning or experienced, amateur or professional player doesn’t matter. This is one nice instrument. Try it... bet you start scheming to get one too!

i played this guitar when i went to guitar store. I picked up a bunch of different taylors, and martins and gibsons and anything else u can think of. but when i picked this one up, i couldnt put it down. feels excellent in your hands, plays like a dream. dont just read this review and make a decision. go out to a guitar store, play around a bunch of different guitars and play this one. itll stick out, the warm sound, playability and everything else about it.

Purchased the "Big Baby" a few months ago and have been playing it daily. First off it is light, but the sound is incredible. I have played all ranges of acoustics ($1000-down range) and this one has the best feel..the action is great sound is beautiful. Love the flat finish and the gig bag, though tight, is well made and protective. If you are looking for an inexpensive (relative term) acoustic with the sound of an expensive guitar this one is for you.

"I have so much to say about this guitar! First I would like to say that my vintage was damaged so I was looking for a cheap guitar to hold me over for a while until I spent some serious money (I'm broke at the moment haha) I went to the store with my mind set on a $200-250 range guitar, just something to play. I literally played every guitar in that range (about 20 guitars). I found one that I kind of liked and then I went to compare it to the real deal guitars like Martins, Taylors, and Guilds... After playing some Guilds and other Taylors I randomly picked up another Taylor on the wall and started playing... My ears said WOW! This guitar had the most amazing sound, almost hard to explain but sounded in its own way better than the $1,800 Taylors there. Then I looked at the price tag and I was shocked, it was really cheap! and then I saw the name ""Big Baby Taylor"" I thought to myself... Ohh I�ve heard about this guitar! This guitar puts to shame any other guitar in the $1,000 range and under, hands down. This guitar has very low action so its a dream to play, like playing a strat that�s an acoustic. Its extremely accurate in the fret placement all the way up, its just perfect. Its very loud, its finished in a light varnish not a heavy lacquer, so the sound escapes the wood much more and sounds beautiful (has a natural wood feel, wonderful to run your hands on). When you pick up this guitar it feels very light, don�t be fooled its a strong guitar. This guitar is slightly smaller than a full size, it can't be noticed to the eye really, its 15"" at the bottom instead of the normal 16"" or so... This slightly affects the bottom end, and at first I was worried about other reviews calling it ""twangy, no low end, or bright"" but it all depends on how you play/ what you play. There�s a lot of bottom end for me, in fact its the low end on this guitar that makes it sound great to me... again this is all subject to your ears, but there�s tons of low end for me and it's rich too. The bottom end is very clear ""Guild like"", not muddy. I find that when recording with this guitar (stereo setup with 2 large condenser mics) you have all the bottom end you could need. There�s just a slight bit less than normal when playing it live, but after playing it for about 5 mins you start to notice that, yes there�s a lot more bass there. The mid range is in my opinion perfect, exactly what im looking for, I wont go into detail about its sound only because everyone�s ear hears differently and I don't want to be describing it wrong. There�s only ONE downside to this guitar and that�s the gig bag it comes with, the gig bag is very high quality made, and is beautiful. BUT its such a tight fit that it makes you feel like you are forcing it in until you stress the body. Invest in a hard case, even if you are satisfied with the gig bag, you NEED the protection of a case. It is hard to find a properly fitting case because of this guitars size, buy the Musician Friends brand tweed classical guitar case (only $56 after shipping!), the dimensions are right for this guitar. So yes I sold my old PA the next day for the extra $[...] bux and got this guitar! So in conclusion, if you are looking to spend $200-250 on a guitar� pick up a Big Baby Taylor and play for a few minutes, you�ll soon catch yourself trying to figure out what you can sell for the extra $[...] bux! It�s worth the investment; in fact it�s a steal! It honestly plays and sounds better than most guitars 2-3 times as much, with no exaggeration on that fact. It�s great for people of all playing skills... I have friends who own $1,500 Taylor�s who�ve played mine, and they want to buy one after strumming a few chords! Great job Bob Taylor! "
