Akai MPD16 USB MIDI Pad Control Surface
The Akai Professional MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad unit is a dedicated pad controller that can be used with any sampler/sound module and/or sequencer to record and play drum and percussion patterns with the expression and feel that only pads can offer. Equipped with 16 totally assignable MPC pads switchable across two banks (thereby giving you effectively 32 pads) plus a performance slider for hi-hat and other sample switching, the MPD16 is the definitive laptop rhythm controller.
The MPD16 has MIDI out so that it can be used with any sampler or sound module. However, the MPD16 is also equipped with USB. Not only can it derive its power supply from that interface when used with Akai Professional's USB equipped Z4 or Z8, it can also communicate with a computer for controlling software applications. Each pad can be set to output MIDI notes of your choosing with a variable velocity range and these can all be set conveniently via your Mac or PC.
The MPD16 also inherits some of the MPC series' features such as the FULL LEVEL and 16 LEVELS functions available on dedicated switches. Sixteen touch-sensitive MPC pads let you play grooves exactly as you feel them. The days of programming drums and percussions via a keyboard are over. The MPD16 is the perfect controller for computer based drum programming. Also a great trigger pad to control rack-mount samplers for live use.
