Controls Galore

The Akai MPC 5000 is a tough, sturdy machine, offering a complete tactile control experience. The top panel. where all the action takes place, has a dedicated control for nearly every MPC5000 function. 16 velocity-sensitive drum pads allow you to trigger samples and play synth programs. You can also assign the pads for other functions like entering various modes, choosing sequences and muting tracks on the fly. All your transport controls are here too. Dedicated sliders, knobs, buttons and a handy jog-shuttle help make your creative flow an enjoyable and productive as they enable you to make quick changes and audition ideas effortlessly with professional results.

Connectivity

The Akai MPC5000 provides a full compliment of inputs and outputs on the rear panel. All the connections you’ll need to integrate the MPC5000 into your existing system are here, but the MPC5000 is also the perfect choice to build a brand new system around from the ground up.

L/R Record-In combo jacks accept both ¼” instrument cables as well as XLR microphone inputs. A pair of RCA phono jacks allow for the connection of a turntable complete with Phono Ground connector. There are 8 assignable ¼” mix outputs along with a stereo ¼” output pair. Digital connections include S/PDIF I/O, a lightpipe ADAT Output as well as a handy USB port. Rounding out the rear panel connections are 2 MIDI inputs along with 4 MIDI outputs. Additional front panel connections include 2 footswitch jacks and a stereo headphone output.

Storage

Once your production takes flight you can save your work to the handy built-in disk drive. It uses Type 1 or Type 2 compact flash cards in sizes up to 2 gigabytes. Samples, sequence data, synth programs and songs can easily be saved at the touch of a button. The drive also allows you to load data of all types directly into the MPC5000. In addition, you can add an optional DVD/CDR-W drive (CD-M25) into an awaiting drive bay in the front of the unit. This allows you to burn audio and data disks making it easy to share and distribute your work without the need for an external device.

Additional Features

All status and detailed information are displayed in an easy to read 240 x 128 hinged backlit LCD. It lays flat on the top panel but can also be tilted and faced forward depending on your viewing position. The display contrast knob makes it easy to view the screen from multiple angles. Akai’s Chop Shop 2.0 integrated software lets you slice a stereo loop into individual samples that are automatically assigned to the top-panel pads. The USB port enables connection to a computer for uploading and downloading data. Also included is a sample library provided by Loopmasters.com so you’re ready to roll right out of the box and start making history.
