These mics are light weight and feel a little flimsy, but produce a great sound for the price. Right out of the box through my Tascam US1641 I was very pleased with the sound. With no EQ they sound good, well suited for live sound. With a little EQ work they sound excellent for Pro recording. They're a little sensitive to sharp transients (big accents & rim shots) if you put your mic pres up too high. It took a little time to dial in the EQ and overall signal level, but after that they work fabulous. The overheads and the pencil condenser are the best mics in the set. The tom mics are very warm and pick up good tone and sound best with WELL TUNED DRUMS. The Bass drum mic sounds good no matter what I do with it and sounded better with a new bass drum batter head. The snare mic is my least favorite in the mix, but it is not bad. I just recently upgraded to a Shure SM57 because I've upgraded snares and need a more detailed sound. I might take the snare from this kit and mic the bottom of the snare or the bottom of my floor tom :) Overall, GREAT starter kit to get you up and running with no regrets. I would buy this again if I was on the same budget.

Our church needed to put our drummer into the PA. We were using a few inexpensive mics so we wanted to upgrade. The Samson 8KIT turned out to be a great value and a terrific set of microphones.
