Comments about Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 Premium 6-Channel USB 2.0 Audio Interface:

This is the second audio interface I've bought. The first was an M-Audio Fast Track Pro which served me well for many years. I was interested in finding an audio interface with more than two inputs. I made the mistake of first getting the Presonus 44VSL which was a nightmare. I won't go into the problems here, but it's well worth your time to check out the Presonus User Forums to get a taste of the issues.

Regardless, I returned the PreSonus unit and left with this NI which was actually a few dollars cheaper. What an amazing difference a few dollars less makes!!! The unit plugged in, loaded it's drivers and was up and running perfectly within 10 minutes. What really knocked my socks off was the sound as compared to my previous Fast Track Pro. Granted, the Fast Track was a few years old, but this was a HUGE difference. The signal is absolutely clean and clear with full dynamic range. These folks did it right. KISS...Keep It Simple Stupid. You don't need a lot of fancy nonsense, just stuff you need where it's simple and logical to find.

The top of the unit sports a BIG master volume knob. Easy to find and adjust even with big fingers. Better than that are the diagnostic lights on the top panel of the unit that allows you to visually see the input and output signals on any channel which will immediately allow you to see any latency issues or loss of signal. The control panel software they provide is not some fancy, glitzy package. It's simple and to the point just like everything else on this unit and it includes some great diagnostic tools to help identify problems.

There are a couple of oddities in the unit that came up that I don't completely understand their thinking in designing them this way. Instead of a typical mix knob that allows you to monitor either your original signal, or the processed signal they have a multi-function button that is an all or nothing setting for channels 1/2 and 3/4, In other words, how you have the button configured will either me all source monitor or all processed signal monitor from your DAW. Maybe I just don't understand the value of it yet, but it seems odd to me. Also, there seems to be considerable latency in the 3/4 channels even with the monitor button engaged. Again, it may be a misunderstanding on my part.

Overall, you can't do any better especially in this price range. Go get it and be impressed!!!

Comments about Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 Premium 6-Channel USB 2.0 Audio Interface:

After researching an audio I/O, I thought Komplete Audio 6 would fit my needs on a tight budget. Once I decided what I wanted, I bought this in-store at the Hollywood location, because I didn't want to wait for shipping.

FIrst off, it's really compact, and weighty. It glistens with metal and a glass top with a giant master volume knob. It's beautiful! It was super easy to setup with Ableton Live on my Mac and my midi devices. I was up in less than 15 minutes.

The sound and latency is phenomenal. The sound is crisp and clean. I am running sometimes 8 tracks simultaneously in Live 9 with many effects on a buffer of 32 samples with an overall latency of 5.76ms.

I'm still playing with it, recording vocals and the like...but for having it only 4 hours, I feel it was money well spent. I was told NI made rock-solid I/O's. And it's true.
