The Reverend Mike Watt Signature Wattplower is the result of a four-year exploratory between Watt and Reverend to produce a bass guitar with the perfect balance of sonic explosiveness, supreme playability, and unique looks.

It all started for Mike Watt in San Pedro, California. That's where he met D. Boon and George Hurley – who would later form The Minutemen – a band that would inspire legions. Watt went on to form Firehose and to play bass for punk royalty, The Stooges, as well as hundreds of solo projects with musicians around the world.

The Reverend Mike Watt Wattplower Bass Guitar starts out with a double-cutaway korina body along with a strong, easy-playing 5-piece korina/walnut neck that boasts a comfortable medium oval profile and shorter 30" scale length. The neck is capped with a rosewood fingerboard that features 21 frets and a superbly-playable 12" radius. A tribute to Watt's dad who was a sailor in the Navy, the fretboard is adorned with an Anchor inlay at the first fret.

The proprietary Reverend P-Blade pickup offers that classic "P"-style sound with some additional low-end beef and some extra volume, clarity, and sustain. The simple 2-knob Volume & Tone control layout allows for precise tonal shaping while vintage-style knobs adds to the Wattplower's old-school appeal.

A set of Hipshot Ultralight tuning machines are incredibly lightweight while offering outstanding tuning precision, and a high-quality Hipshot A Style bridge (string-thru or top-load) offers great sustain and stability. The Wattplower brings together classic styling with modern features, making it the perfect weapon for today's players. Includes hardshell case.

Where Have You Been All My Life?

I've played a Jazz Bass most of my life, mostly punk rock/noise rock, but over the past year or so my left shoulder has decided to give me grief. So the search for a lighter bass began. Tried a Hofner Verythin long scale for a while, and liked the weight, but the tone was a bit mushy, and the bigger body made it unwieldy for playing our speedier songs(ended up with a lingering bruise on my forearm). Then I discovered this bad boy. I'd never really been a fan of short scales before, but since I kinda idolize Mike Watt and this is his signature jam, I thought I'd give it a shot. Super lightweight, incredibly thin profile neck, and incredibly versatile, I know I'm in love. The P-blades run kind of hot, and cut right on through the mix and mesh up perfectly with my Amptweaker TightRock pedal, for a some nice aggressive tones. I keep it dimmed, but you can get a relatively smooth, tamer tone dialed back a hair if you're more into some slapping and popping. Comes with a super rad and equally light custom case. I'd have every color if I didn't want to stay married.
