The JRS-34 combines the best attributes of vintage and modern technologies to create a high-quality active ribbon microphone ideally suited for music and voice.

The Cloud Microphones JRS-34, nominated for the 2011 Musikmesse International Press Award in the category of studio microphones, was designed in collaboration with Stephen Sank and named in memory of Jon R. Sank (1934-1998). Mr. Sank was instrumental in designing many of RCA’s legendary ribbon mics, including the BK-11 and BK-10A. When RCA abandoned its microphone division, Mr. Sank left with a lifetime of tools and knowledge and began teaching his son Stephen, the art of ribbon microphones.

Built upon the shoulders of giant RCA mics. The ribbon itself is the same as the original 44 series, everything else has been redesigned, drawing upon valuable lessons from the the BK-11 and other microphones. The Cloud JRS-34, with modern appointments such as neodymium magnets, Cinemag transformers, and active D/C JFET Circuitry, takes the next evolutionary step in the immortal 44/BK-11 design line.

Got I want another!

Comments about Cloud Microphones JRS-34 Active Ribbon Microphone:

How does is sound?...It is almost unexplainable the magic that a great ribbon mic provides. Everything is 3 dimensional, warmer and has a clarity like nothing else heard. Because most ribbons are figure 8 pattern and roll-off the upper highs, you get a sound that is near perfect in how you hear the instrument in the room it is being recorded. Acoustic instruments sound BIG and natural without sounding to bassy. Vocals (1-3 ft. from the mic) sound like the singer is sitting right next to you. Move up close to the mic and you sound like the voice of god (not really…but close). Place the mic 8-10ft back from a gtr amp and WOW.
I've yet to have the time to record a drum kit with it…but many of the old recording from long ago, the drum tracks were recorded with only one or two ribbon mics. No close mic'ing required.

So…now I want another one ( so I can record stereo ribbons) like the old recordings…( I promised the wife I would sell off several mic's that I now know, I will not use, since my brain has been invaded with the sound of ribbon's).
