The PRS S2 Series offers the fit, finish, feel, and attention to detail of PRS craftsmanship in a straightforward design. Standing for “Stevensville 2,” S2 Series instruments are made at the PRS Maryland shop blending new design elements and manufacturing techniques with practiced quality control and workmanship to create reimagined, fresh guitars that reach a more affordable price for players. With a simple, straightforward design these guitars have serious style and expressive tone.
The PRS S2 Custom 24 takes the original PRS guitar, the Custom 24, and reimagines it with stripped-down features and a new aesthetic. Retaining the classic maple top/mahogany back combination, with the classic PRS body shape & a new asymmetrical beveled top, this guitar is resonant with a funky familiarity. The new asymmetrical, beveled body shape offers a vintage vibe, and the flatness of the top gives the S2 Custom 24 a big, resonant voice. Its versatility comes from its custom-wound pickups (with coil tap) and 3-way blade switch. Familiar for PRS players of old, and a fresh take for players of all types.
A guitar should be comfortable and feel familiar from the moment you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The PRS S2 Custom 24 features a 25” mahogany neck with scarf-joint construction and the PRS "Pattern Regular" neck shape, which stems back to the PRS “Regular” neck shape found on guitars made in the late 1980’s in the PRS Virginia Avenue Annapolis shop.
The PRS S2 Custom 24 is also equipped with a PRS Tremolo as well as PRS S2 locking tuners, and custom-wound pickups. PRS S2 Series proprietary pickups are built to PRS' exact specifications, including wire and coating materials, winds, and resistance. The PRS S2 Custom 24 features a 3-way blade pickup switch with a master volume and a push/pull tone control. Coil-tap functionality adds versatility by allowing players to split the humbucking pickups into singlecoils, providing a vast array of tones. The jack assembly used on the S2 Series is the same jack as used on the PRS Core line, providing a clean connection point to amplify your sound.
Finish should do three things: most importantly, it should enhance the tone of a guitar. It should also feel good to the player’s touch, and it should look good. The finish used on the PRS S2 Series accomplishes these goals by featuring a polyester basecoat and an acrylic topcoat [reminiscent of the finish system used on PRS Core guitars for twenty years (before the introduction of V12)]. PRS updated the process of this finish requiring a thinner topcoat for optimal tone. This old-but-new finish maintains a hi-gloss, attractive aesthetic.
Whether the PRS S2 Custom 24 is your first PRS or an addition to your arsenal, one thing is certain: each model in the PRS S2 Series is a solid American-made guitar that makes no sacrifice in playability or tone. Includes Gig Bag.

Comments about Paul Reed Smith S2 Custom 24 Electric Guitar:
I have around twenty years of playing guitar. I have had both of the most popular guitars in the world. I have a Gibson SG, and a Fender Stratocaster Standard. Actually i went to Sam Ash Store thinking in buy a Gibson Les Paul (T, Studio or Custom).
I had heard related of PSR Guitars quality, but it is quite expensive brand. When I saw the price of PRS S2 Custom 24, I already Thought that it was made in Korea like the SE serie. I already dont believe what Í was seeing.
I try the several guitars that day in Sam Ash Store, Fenders, Gibson Les Paul, and PRS's, even the CORE serie.
At the end I concluded that PRS's S2 doesn't have to envy in sound to any Les Paul, Fender or even the CORE PRS's serie.
I really get in love of this guitar, its great, has a good price, high quality in tone and sound, and it is really versatile.
You can play between humbucker sound but after you can change to a REAL single coin, it is amazing how you can get a real stratocaster sound, and even telecaster sound when you mix both splited pickups.
I believe that PRS made a really good job here. They sacrify finishing, but not the quallity of the guitar..
At the end of the day I left Sam Ash with a PRS S2 Custom 24 in my hands. And I'm so glad I made that decision.
