The PRS McCarty models pay tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mentor/friend and legendary electric guitar pioneer/innovator, Ted McCarty. Ted McCarty was President of a legendary guitar corporation during the true golden era of guitar building (1950-1966), so in the late '80s, Smith asked McCarty to consult with him on both guitar design and production techniques.

Paul incorporated his own experiences as a guitar builder with all of the knowledge and techniques that he learned from Ted to create a brand new instrument, and in 1994, another iconic PRS model was born with the release of the first McCarty model.

Today, Paul Reed Smith is excited to introduce the McCarty 594 model, which offers an outstanding blend of classic and contemporary all packed into one superbly playable instrument. As you'd expect from a McCarty model, the McCarty 594 boasts a thicker mahogany back that lays beneath a figured flame maple top for a timeless sound that's matched by striking looks. Setting this model apart, the McCarty 594 has a slightly longer 24.594" scale length (which is where the guitar gets its name) along with a Pattern Vintage neck profile, which shares the same dimensions as the PRS Pattern profile except it's slightly thicker and features an asymmetrical carve that's a bit chunkier on the bass side and a little less so on the treble side.

The McCarty 594 comes fitted with a pair of vintage-inspired 58/15 LT pickups. Just as its standard counterpart, the 58/15 LTs serve up those full, rich, authentic tones that you'd expect from those coveted vintage humbuckers, but the low turns of the 58/15 LTs provide some extra warmth and clarity. The pickups are wired through a versatile 4-knob control layout with push/pull coil taps on both tone controls that allow you to dial in those sweet, chimey single-coil tones when you need them. The two volume and two tone controls are also situated in a way that makes it easy to roll off both volume knobs simultaneously.

The high-quality nickel hardware on the McCarty 594 includes a PRS 2-piece stoptail bridge and a set of tweaked Phase III PRS tuning machines featuring an added set screw that pulls the tuner's gear and worm together to facilitate tone transfer from the string directly into the guitar with as little energy as possible being detracted. Comes complete with a hardshell case.

"The 594 is the best new guitar I've played in years. It has a vintage heart and soul but without the technical limitations that usually come along with an old instrument. What good is an old guitar if you can't get all that feel out of the upper frets, or the intonation is off? To hear that old PAF sound but be able to articulate the notes in a way that only modern manufacturing could allow is so exciting."
    – John Mayer

"I think a lot of people know PRS as a company that is looking to history, innovating, and improving all at the same time. The McCarty 594 is a great example of that culture. I believe it to be a great musical instrument… quality, playability and tone. It is also, as the ad says, subtly very different. When we were developing the 594, we examined everything: the scale length, the tuners, the bridge materials, the nut material, the pickups, the neck shape...... every piece of this instrument was designed to be exactly what we thought it needed to be to add up to the best instrument we could make. The final guitar, in my experience, is more than the sum of its parts. My hope is it is a source of joy and real musicality for everyone who picks one up. So far, it seems to be doing its job in that regard"
    – Paul Reed Smith
