The LL16-12 ARE 12-String features all-solid Rosewood back and sides with hand-selected premium Engelmann Spruce top. The combination of these tried-and-true tonewoods produce a tone that is balanced and articulate, with warmth to spare. A modified non-scalloped bracing design retains the L series’ characteristic bright tone while enhancing low-end tone. The rosewood and mahogany 5-ply neck is carved into a comfortable slim profile. This traditional style offers stable grip and smooth playability over the full length of the neck.
Newly designed bracing pattern and A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) treatment create rich warmth and open resonance while maintaining excellent tone balance which makes this guitar fit in a band perfectly. A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.
Yamaha's SRT Zero impact pickup ensure you a stress-free performance on stage. When professional guitarists want to record real acoustic guitar tone, they'll record the guitar with a microphone. That holds true for guitarists who prefer using electric-acoustics on stage as well. Electric-acoustics are very effective in live situations due to their ability to adjust sound and balance volume with the other instruments in the band. But the sound that electric-acoustics deliver is merely the amplified sound from a pick-up attached to the bridge or the top, and lacks true acoustic resonance and ambiance. True acoustic guitar tone that you hear on recordings only exists in the recording studio where experienced sound engineers have the means to capture that sound. Yamaha's SRT system lets you create that same studio recorded sound. The system lets you choose from three different high-end mic types as well as mic positioning. It also lets you obtain more detailed sound by blending the sound with that from the piezo pickup and adjusting resonance. The SRT series brings studio quality acoustic guitar sound to the stage that will amaze your audiences.
In addition, the Yamaha LL16-12 ARE includes a hardshell case.

Comments about Yamaha Ll16-12 Are 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I have just completed an 8 month search for a 12 string acoustic I could afford, play easily and would sound good. I went through a Washburn WD30S, Guild D125-12, Taylor 150e and finally ended up with a Yamaha LL16-12.
I had my first experience with Sam Ash when I traded in my Bedell TB-28G for the new Guild and was very happy with the deal. Got the Taylor and finally the Yamaha from them as well (incredible low price!). I must say the experience was better than any I had with GC over the last 30 years.
The Washburn had far too wide a neck for my stubby fingers and there was little bass to balance the mids and highs. The Guild was the most beautiful acoustic I've ever owned, but was very heavy and tone was similar to the Washburn. The Taylor was easier to play, had better bass response, but sounded a little "jangly" in the mid to treble strings.
One 12 string I had had my eye on from the beginning was the Yamaha LL16-12, but didn't want to spend that much. Oddly enough, it was very similar (in materials) to the Martin custom shop dreadnought I got in July of 2014.
Solid Engleman Spruce top (torrified w/no runout)
Solid IRW Back & Sides (beautiful color & grain)
Ebony Fretboard & Bridge (unstained black)
Ivoroid Neck & Headstock Binding
Really great tone & volume! Far superior to all the previously mentioned guitars.
Excellent bass with smooth balance and great definition through the midrange and treble levels. This from older, unknown strings that came with the guitar.
Excellent build - no excess glue, thin poly finish on top, lightweight passive SRT pickup system (I'll never use this).
Top had no runout and a tight grain w/nice feathering.
Beautiful Maple body binding (a nice suprise)
Nice abalone rosette.
Gold die-cast machine tuners.
Really nice hardshell case.
NOTE: Regarding the HS case that came with the 12-string, I was quite surprised to find I didn't need to add weather stripping to the edges to get an effective air-tight seal (for Oasis+ humidification). The Martin 535 case that came with my CS Dread required it on both the top and bottom edges. Go figure!
IMO the best 12-string available for the money, but really hard to find in stock anywhere.
Future changes I'll be making:
Replace plastic nut and saddle with bone.
Martin SP Lifespan 12-string set
Remove pickguard? (I'm a lefty that plays strung right)
I will update my review after the above is completed.
