Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver Direct Box:

I use this with a Precision bass and a Bassman 250 head. I have the Sans Amp looped between the tuner output and the effects loop input. This way I get a buffered signal with no EQ to the Sans Amp. I can then use it to change the charactor of sound I have. I have a bass boost, a mid boost and a distortion voice programmed into it. I found that it took a while to get a feel for how each of the controls actually worked. The memory feature of this pedal is great. Work with it at rehersal to get the sound you want, set it to memory and then you are good go anywhere any time. I use this with an AC adaptor and have had no noise or hum issues. I found that the battery life wasn't that great, and if the battery goes dead then no sound comes out! (Buffered bypass) All in all, this is a great solution for changing sounds during a song or making a simple bass like a Fender Precision have multiple personalities.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver Direct Box:

I have been playing bass for about thirty years. I would describe myself as a well traveled hobbiest/semi-professional. I decided to try one of these after reading a Geddy Lee interview about a year ago. I like the Sans Amp because it alows you to dial in a controlled amount of distortion without the fuzz box sound or blowing people out of the room. I also like being able switch character mid song, the program selection works silently. The only feature that took getting used to was finding the knob location from memory and making adjustments. Once you get used to it, the rest is easy. The San Amp is also very quiet and doesn't add hiss or hum. I also use this with a Digitech Bass Squeeze compressor ahead of it with great affect. I use this mainly with a Fender Precision Bass, it really opens up the tonal posibilities of this bass. The Sans Amp is also well built, I take it with me everywhere and it hasn't missed a beat. I would definitely recomend using one of these.
