A bad ligature can spoil a good reed on a good mouthpiece by binding the sides of the reed, thus preventing the reed from vibrating freely. The Bonade ligature employs this principle by means of “pressure ribs”, which hold the reed securely at points just off-center of the reed, allowing the reed’s edges to vibrate freely. As a result, more reeds are playable with this ligature. Another advantage is that 20 to 30 percent more tone may be produced, for greater carrying power.

Bonade ligatures, designed by world-renowned performer and educator Daniel Bonade, are also available in gold-lacquered models for alto, tenor and soprano saxophone. For many performers, gold-lacquered ligatures help produce subtle and desirable changes in response and sound coloring. What’s more, gold lacquering offers an extra “touch of elegance” to all performances.

Comments about Leblanc Bonade Lacquered Alto Saxophone Ligature:

Ordered a Phil Tone Rift mouthpiece and a Bonade ligature from Sam Ash...fast delivery, mouthpiece is great. When I ordered I asked for the inverted Bonade alto. I said "inverted" several times during my order. I did not get the inverted...I guess I got what was in stock. Ligatures are not returnable...The Bonade is a step up over a generic, fits a Meyer hard rubber good. I've had Bonades in the past and they have always been good for classical and jazz, at a lower price point. The Phil Tone is just a bit bigger around, so I could not use this Bonade non-inverted on the Phil Tone, but it works good on my old Meyer. When ordering over the phone you may have to be more specific then I was saying "inverted" three times...I guess four times is the number you need to say it.
