Power and control. Two elements that can make all the difference in your music, whether you compose, create or perform.

The Yamaha MM8 give you the creative control you need over your music. The sounds are taken from Yamaha's pro-class MOTIF synths and the MM8 has an additional collection of high-quality voices to add to your own unique style.

Editing your sounds is intuitively simple, yet complete. Allowing you to change   the textures of the sounds while you play them, using tactile and efficient knobs. Special Patterns are ilso integrated into the system, providing full instrumental accompaniment with bass, chords and drums, lifting your live performance and advancing the songs you create. A full-sized keyboard delivers 88 weighted keys with a natural touch and dynamic feel over the entire range, weighted heavier on the lower notes and gradually become lighter as you play up the keyboard.

Yamaha MM8 Features:
  • Super-high-quality sounds
  • Tons of real-time control
  • Dynamic music creation toolsincluding automatic Pattern and Arpeggiator generators
  • Performance Memory for instantfull-panel setting changes
  • Versatile song recording features with eight normal tracks and one Pattern track
  • Convenient, easy-to-use data storage solutions

PLAYABILITY
The MM8 has 418 Voices and 22 Drum Kits on board, all based on the dynamic, realistic sounds of the advanced MOTIF series synthesizers. These exceptionally high-quality sounds range from authentic acoustic instruments to wild, unique and in-your-face synth Voices. An extra set of GM Voices is built into the instrument as well, giving you all you need to play back songs recorded in that popular format.

With so many Voices to choose from, you might think it's difficult to select the ones you need. Not so. The convenient Category Search function lets you choose the type of instrument you want to play - organ, guitar, synth, lead, strings, whatever - then select the specific Voice. All your favorite sounds are right at your fingertips, ready to play when you are.

Comments about Yamaha MM8 88 Key Pro Keyboard:

This keyboard is great if it is only played as a piano or single instrument. The sounds are good and there are enough effects for basic needs.

The arranger is somewhat pointless in this product - it cannot play the Intro and Ending parts, which makes it quite challenging to play as a one-man band or background music. Even though it is possible to start the music with a manual lead-in and a fill-in rhythm, cutting out the whole accompaniment at one point is just not so adorable, and it is very likely that the ending will be awkward because even a whole-note ending is not available.

Although advertised with 168 patterns, it is actually only 56 styles, each with full accomp., bass+drums and rhythm only. And even more annoying, this keyboard can store only one user pattern loaded from a USB storage, yet there is no style making capability onboard or as a software. Thus the arranger function is pretty much limited to whatever that come with it, and that is it. There is simply no way during a live performance that I can take 40 seconds to load a style from the USB, and set the appropirate parameters, and still keep the music going.

The worst of all, this piano-dedicated keyboard that has a MIDI playing and sequencing capability offers a polyphony of ONLY 32 notes! That means if I play a nice and fast music with the damper pedal pressed, people will soon hear previous notes getting chopped off. Using a customized MIDI file as a backing is also pointless as if leaving some notes for the actual keyboard, the backing can contain about 10-15 polyphony only! So it is virtually impossible to use this keyboard as a arranger itself unless there is something else that will take over the sound engine.

The good thing is, this keyboard is loaded with nice sounds and will be able to capture the audience. However the choice of sounds is not so varied, and doing studio recording with this does not sound that professional.

Generally, this keyboard is only a expansion of the MM6, and its price has gone far beyond its abilities. The functions are a bit too shallow by themselves, but it does work as a complete workstation.
