Comments about Kala KA-SSTU-T Travel Tenor Ukulele:

It's obvious that the SSTU would be great for travel. It's incredibly thin. So thin that you would imagine the sound would suffer. Au contraire. The sound is rich and warm. I added a low G Red Aquila string and it sounds even warmer. The SSTU also projects very well. I compared it to several other 'standard sized' tenors while at Sam Ash. Seems strange but, in this price range, the SSTU was the best sounding uke and had a better projection than a 'regular' uke. I guess that I would attribute that to 1) the solid spruce, 2) the arched back and 3) the design of the instrument. I have really come to appreciate the narrow body and find it very easy to hold, handle, and play. Personally I find the thinner body makes it a bit easier to scrunch up next to my stomach. I play it mostly while seated but it's also easier to handle while standing. It tunes easily and holds the tune well. (Took a week or so for the low G red Aquila to finally stretch out). The neck is fine and the finish on the frets is very nice. I compared it to an Ibanez Concert that also caught my eye. The Ibanez was great looking. But the Kala sounded much better and more importantly the finish work on the frets was head and shoulders better than the rough work on the Ibanez. The SSTU comes with a gig bag. It's ok but probably will not offer a lot of protection. The zipper on mine has been problematic. I have replaced it with a Kala UCT case. Unfortunately the thin body of the SSTU meant that I had to "build up" the inside of the case with some extra foam to insure that the uke sits in there securely. I have since found out that Kala now offers an honest-to-god hard case designed specifically for the SSTU. It's a bit pricey but looks to be very very sturdy. All in all, I am totally satisfied with the SSTU. The fact that it is a travel uke is really secondary; I bought it for its sound. Fit and finish is good; certainly on par with other comparable (price-wise) ukes, and in some cases a bit nicer looking.

Comments about Kala KA-SSTU-T Travel Tenor Ukulele:

First off this is a very amazing ukulele. By looking at it's size some people may say that it'll sound different and not loud, but that's not the case. It offers a full body sound and also louder and richer in tone compared to my previously owned and still owned ukuleles. Perefct to carry around with it's included soft cast with silky soft interior. I can't put this baby down and give my other ukes some playing time.

Well worth the price, you won't regret it!!!
