The Zoom H1 Handy Recorder has the renowned recording technology and studio-quality microphones in the easiest, most portable device ever!

Named "Best Product" by Music Inc Magazine - 2010

The Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, while the smallest of the Handy Recorder family is by no means small in performance or features! Powered by a single AA battery (allows for approximately 10 hours of recording time) and small enough to fit in your shirt pocket, the Zoom H1 is as portable as can be.  The Zoom H1 Handy Recorder is truly the most convenient, best value, in a Portable Digital Recorder.

2 built-in high-quality condenser microphones record your sound source in beautiful hi-fidelity stereo utilizing an X/Y pattern. The imaging is accurate and the sound is pristine. Auto-record level keeps the signal in-check with no nasty distortion. Engage the low cut filter to eliminate low-end rumble from the source.

All the H1’s functions are right there at your fingertips; record, delete, playback, pause, marker, forward, as well as volume for playback and monitoring are all located on the unit, easily selected using your fingertips. You can record full bandwidth quality WAV files at 96kHz, 48kHz, 44.1kHz at 16 or 24-bit. It also records MP3s with rates from 48 to 320kbps.

Monitor with confidence through the built-in speaker. The LCD screen provides an accurate readout of all recording attributes and levels.  Mount the H1 on a tripod stand or on your HD camera using the built-in mounts. The headphone output doubles as an audio line-out, and the external mic input also serves as a stereo line-in, both using a 1/8” jack. Save your recordings to the included 2GB microSD memory card (up the ante with optional cards up to 32GB). Transfer and backup recordings quickly and easily via the built-in USB 2.0 port.

Whether you’re a songwriter, live sound engineer, videographer, field recordist, journalist, student, sales associate, or simply love recording, you’ll love the Zoom H1 Handy Recorder.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Portable Digital Recorder:

I originally bought this little recorder for interviews of an upcoming project of mine, but it goes way further than that. The sound quality that it puts out is pretty impressive, especially when you consider the price. I wish this kind of affordable technology would have been around ten years ago. My only two nits to pick would be for the unit itself, and the accessory pack. As it is stated before, the unit is made from plastic. That really does not bother me. What does though, is the power button comes off. It easily clicks back in place, but it seems that if you lose it you will have a hard time turning the unit on and off. It comes off almost every time I use it, and now out of habit I check it every time. With the accessory pack, particularly the case, it is not big enough for the recorder and a pair of earbuds. Only the recorder will fit. And also with the case, the elastic bands will get stuck in the zipper, so I just cut them off. All in all though, great little piece of gear, and I would do it all over and buy it again.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Portable Digital Recorder:

I've been looking at portable recorders for some time but until now have been hesitant of spending the money. Then came this unit. The price is what attracted me the most, but after purchasing it, I have to wonder what took me so long. This thing is great! Originally, I wanted to use it mainly for recording performances, to get some live performances of my band on the web. I took it home and tried it out at our next rehearsal and have now realized what a useful tool it is for that as well. This is a must have for any artist or band that takes their music seriously!

If I have one concern, it's that the plastic casing, although seemingly sturdy, it is, after all plastic. and could be broken.

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Portable Digital Recorder:

I bought this to record one of my live performances. I had it for only 2 days to become familiar with it and gave it my best shot at capturing the event. It came out perfect! This is a testamnet to the H1's ease of use. I have an early H4 also and that recorder took me many, many attempts to get a good clean sound. That was not because it was a bad recorder but because it has SO many options, it has a lot of complexities. The h1 is as simple as it can be. The battery life is a refreshing change from the energy hungry H4. The H1 lasts 10 hrs with one AA battery. So you can record an event without the life support system of an AC connection. That is great news if you want to put it on a stand far from your power source.I am totally happy with the results I got. I used it out on a street performance using the built-in mics. I placed it on a mic boom stand approx 10 ft infront of the PA system and it produced a fantastic recording. Many of the recordings are now a part of a demo CD. This is the best bang for your dollars in a recording device if you want a simple and yet high quality field recorder. My only suggestion to Zoom is to make an H1 with a more robust body. Maybe a rubberized body. This is a good enough recorder to boost the build quality. Maybe for an extra $50.00 people would opt for an H1 delux version. But then again, for [$], if you break it, you can just go buy another one!

Comments about Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Portable Digital Recorder:

This was 2010's Best Buy for me! I waited patiently for this and I was glad I did. I have the H4 also and after almost three years of working with it, I mastered it! In other words, I FINALLY learned not to BLOW my live event recordings. (I really do get great recordings now from my mixer to directly to the H4 via stereo 1/4' outputs.) Now that I've bought the H1, I can record live events with both the H4 directly from the mixer AND the H1 mounted on a boom mic stand in front of my QSC K8's. I used the H1 at a live event two days after I took it out of the box and it came out PERFECT the first time! No learning curve. No complexities, and less oportunity to screw-up! So the combination of the H4 and the H1 dumped into Garage Band, gave me almost endless possibilities to combine the different sounds. The sound quality is outstanding! Just what you would expect from a ZOOM. So if you want a no-frills but VERY good and easy to use portable light recorder, look no further than the H1.Oh yeah, it is light and maybe not sturdy enough to be knocked to the pavement so be carefull. But for [$], if you DO drop it to the curb, just go buy another! If ZOOM would make one in rubberized material as an option for say, 175.00, there could be a market for that as well.
