The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock “Hummingbird” into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock “Hummingbird” into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system. First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used aHummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like “Satisfaction,” “Play With Fire,” and “Under My Thumb.”  There are also many iconic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat’s Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb “woody” tone that’s full of character. On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can stand out in a crowd with an all- acoustic band or picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any sized stage.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The neck features a 25.5” scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The neck profile is Epiphone’s classic SlimTaper D profile. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12” radius, and a 1.68” neck. There is single ply white binding around the neck, and the sloped dovewing headstock has the “Epiphone” logo in white. The body top has 5-ply white and black binding while the body back has single ply white binding like vintage originals. The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric’s reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. A guitar has to endure a lot of stress between the nut and bridge and rosewood has proven to be a perfect complement to a spruce top. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot from stage or across the room.

Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO acoustic-electric Guitar is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature their cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an “acoustic” sound. The Hummingbird PRO’s controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low battery indicator and the preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have only had it about a month so far it seems great. Sound very good and is very easy to play. I have a 1977 D35 Guild it sound every bit as good or better than the Guild which was mfg.in the USA. I would recoment this guitar to anyone buying a new guitar in this price range it appears to be well built and has a great sound.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

      to get to the point...
i am not an experienced guitar player. i am only in high school and i don't make much money. I wanted to buy a guitar that would last me a long time and would sound great. This is by far the best guitar i have ever picked up. It is not as expensive as most guitars, but sounds and looks as great as anyone of them. I am a song leader for my temple youth group and i need this guitar to entertain restless little children which is often a hard task. when they hear this guitar they are dead silent . i mean it stuns the children. My only concern is it is slightly bigger than i would have liked. Overall this is an incredible guitar which i use everyday. Everyone should be lucky enough to get a guitar like this.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Let me start by saying that i am truly still a novice. i only have about 3 year's playing under my belt. that being said, i decided it was time to get an acoustic guitar. i love the intimacy of sound you get from an acoustic and so i started shopping. i decided my ceiling should be $500 so i set out for my local music stores. there were some washburns with killer necks and good appearance, there was a martin that sounded pretty good but looked like driftwood, then i decided on a Yamaha. it was a sincgle cutaway design which i really liked and it had very rich tones. i was price shopping between the big 2 so i moseyed on down to sam ash and i saw this on the wall. now i have picked up an epi hummingbird from time to time and i have never been impressed. but i was bored so i decided to fumble through some chord changes. well i was blown away. good action (unlike the other non-electric ones) and very nice tone. a little throaty but that's kind of what i'm after. it sounded at least as good as the $600 Yamaha i planned to buy and better than all the Washburns, Ibanezes, Epi Masterbilts, and Alvarezes and was WAY less $$$. i haven't plugged it in yet but i dont really care. if i decide to spend another $200-$300 on a fishman upgrade, i'm still ahead. and lets not forget, this thing is gorgeous. i couldnt be happier with my purchase.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Excelent guitar however I had to tweek the neck a little to get the right height of the strings and changed the strings to Elixir light 11's. I also sanded the bridge a little bit and tighten the rod. It plays wonderfully and has a warm great tone. Everytime I take this baby out of the case everyone compliments me how gorgouse this guitar is. I get more smiling faces when I play this than my Taylor.
