You are looking at a Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster NOS Electric Guitar Black, serial number R72934. This is the actual guitar you will receive should you decide to purchase. (7 lbs, 13.6 oz.)

Although Gilmour's Black Strat wasn't his only one (He also used his Red Strat and 0001 Strat), his Black Strat has definitely gotten the most love and affection from David, and today it still serves as his front running instrument. In 1970, after his guitar was stolen, Gilmour went and picked up another Strat similar to the one he had purchased a few weeks prior to the incident and wound up with a '69  Stratocaster which initially had a sunburst finish, but was repainted in a black finish at the music shop in which the guitar was purchased. David's Black Strat made its way to the stage with Pink Floyd at the 1970 Bath Festival and soon became the backbone of Pink Floyd's notable and distinctive sound, widely featured on a number of Floyd's greatest albums including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall.

Even though Gilmour's Black Strat endured several modifications over the years (from alternating between different pickups, updating hardware, switching between necks with rosewood and maple, and for a very short-lived period an XLR connector was even installed for hum canceling purposes when using his high-gain Fuzz), in the end though, David decided to stick with original neck and middle pickups with a higher output Seymour Duncan in the bridge. This Strat stood with pride at the Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas for a almost 20 years until 2005 when Gilmour picked his old pal back up again for his reunion tour with Pink Floyd and on his solo tour,  On an Island, a year later. Thanks to the close collaboration of Gilmour himself as well as his guitar technician Phil Taylor, the skilled luthiers at the Fender Custom Shop were able to flawlessly recreate Gilmour's most momentous instrument in every detail for the David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster NOS-- with the instantly recognizable tone, looks and feel of the coveted Black Strat.

Just as the original, the alder body is finished in a Black NOS (New Old Stock) finish, giving this Black Strat the appearance of a brand new guitar, the way it looked when it was first purchased by Gilmour over 40 years ago. Although David alternated back and fourth between rosewood and maple fingerboards, the neck on the David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster reflects his most recent neck change from the early '80s (which is still featured on the guitar today); a one-piece maple neck, carved into a tapered, '83 Thin-Shouldered “C” profile, housing 21 vintage-style frets and black dot inlays.

The David Gilmour Signature Strat sports a set of custom pickups representative of the current pickup configuration of the Black Strat, including a custom shop fat '50s single-coil Strat pickup in the neck with a custom-wound single-coil Strat pickup in the middle position, emulating the classic tone of the original vintage middle and neck pickups, with a hotter Seymour Duncan single-coil SSL-5 in the bridge position, the child of the SSL1C pickup featured in David's Black Strat. Before the early '80s, you basically had two choices for greater output and a hotter tone-- either swap your single-coil for a humbucker or settle on a lower output single-coil. Upon Gilmour's request, Seymour Duncan designed and created a single-coil pickup (the SSL1C), capable of delivering searing hot leads while remaining faithful to a true single-coil design. The David Gilmour Signature Strat also features a 2-way pickup enhancement mini-toggle switch, which will engage the neck pickup regardless of what pickup position you're in, enabling you to utilize a rare (to the Stratocaster) pickup combination with bridge and the neck pickups used simultaneously for an expansive tonal palette . The pickups are routed through a master volume with 2 independent tone controls-- one for the neck pickup and one for the middle and comes equipped with a modern 5-way pickup selector.

The nickel/chrome hardware on the David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster is an incredibly accurate replication of the Black Strats current hardware, including an American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo with custom beveled tremolo block, a custom shortened vintage trem arm, a serialized 4-bolt neck plate, a set of vintage-style tuning machines, lightly aged white pickup covers/control knobs and a single-ply black pickguard.

A custom hardshell case is included with your purchase of the Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster for the ultimate protection of this finely crafted guitar. Included inside the case is a certificate of authenticity, an Evidence Audio high-end guitar cable, a custom leather strap, a set of GHS DG Boomers,David Gilmour's three disc “Live in Gdansk” CD and DVD package, a copy of Phil Taylor's “The Black Strat” Book (The first 500 sold includes a limited edition copy signed by Phil), a polishing cloth and a 4-pack of custom shop picks.
