The solid-wood Taylor experience begins with the 300 Series. The Taylor 324 'Hog Top' is a stunning acoustic guitar with Mahogany top and Sapele back and sides for a visually stunning look and dark but sweet complex tone that's perfect for a wide range of styles while maintaining a unique character. To complement the dark, rich-grained complexion of the mahogany tops, these models feature a black pickguard with a mix of black binding and white purfling and a crisp black and white rosette. An all-satin finish evokes an earthy vintage aura.

The African sapele used for backs and sides of the 300 Series shares many of mahogany’s tonal properties; distinctions include slightly less midrange punch and an extra splash of treble brightness. Compared to a Sitka spruce top, the mahogany top’s greater density produces extra compression, which translates into a more controlled, focused tone. A spruce top will yield a quicker response, while a mahogany top adds a more subtle “roll-in” effect to the notes, along with even sustain. The mahogany’s tonal focus will articulate clearly with other instruments both on stage and in a recorded mix. The compression of the mahogany top will suit players who have a more aggressive strumming or picking attack.

The Grand Auditorium is Taylor’s signature shape that embodies the ultimate all-purpose acoustic. The Grand Auditorium is Taylor's most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpicker’s guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the Grand Auditorium was designed to deliver on both fronts. The shape produces an original acoustic voice that is big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The Grand Auditorium's overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional Grand Auditorium won’t let you down.

The Taylor 324 features Forward Shifted with Relief Rout bracing. The Standard II version used on the 300 series instruments shifts the X forward (closer to the soundhole) and incorporates a Taylor-patented relief rout. The Taylor patented relief rout is a tone-enhancing voicing technique in which a groove is carved along the inside edges of the top. This groove is similar in function to the re-curve on a violin — it “loosens up” the edges of the top, generating extra flexibility without sacrificing structural integrity. Taylor first began using this groove in 2002. The result is increased bass and volume with a balanced tone. These refinements enable more of the top to vibrate, enhancing the tone.
