You are looking at a Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Gloss Electric Guitar Washed Cherry, serial number 831246. This is the actual guitar you will receive should you decide to purchase. (9 lbs, 4.2 oz.)

Although the Les Paul had already started to evolve with modifications including the Tune-O-Matic bridge in '56 and the humbucking pickups a year later,  the 1958 Les Paul marked a turning point for the Les Paul with the introduction of the first sunburst finish. President of Gibson, Ted McCarty, was convinced that the declining sales and diminishing popularity of the Les Paul were a result of the flashy Gold Top finish, and sought to revamp its appeal with an elegant, more traditional Cherry Sunburst finish. Because the grains of maple were now visible through the finish, Gibson started to use “bookmatched” two-piece tops glued together with a center seam, giving each and every single one a unique and distinctive character. Gibson Custom Shop has faithfully replicated the classic 1958 Les Paul Standard with all the key ingredients, including lightly figured top for a more authentic look. Although the original '58s were only available in Cherry Sunburst, each of the “burst” finishes offered on the 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissues represents varying degrees to which the original Cherry Sunburst finish had faded, including a Bourbon Burst, Faded Tobacco Burst, Iced Tea Burst, Lemon Burst, Sunrise Tea Burst and Washed Cherry sunburst.

This 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue is reliant on the pivotal elements that made the Les Paul truly classic, but combines them in a way that flaunted what was really underneath the finish, a subtle lightly figured maple top. The body is crafted from solid, non-weight relieved mahogany, a perfect mixture of both richness and depth with the clarity and snap of the maple top. The neck is carved from quarter-sawn mahogany into a fat, rounded '50s, baseball bat neck profile and features a long-tenon neck joint that equates to increased resonance, sustainability and player comfort.

Part of Gibson's 20th Annivesary Specifications, the '58 Les Paul Standard Reissue comes equipped with a pair of Custom Bucker pickups that are capable of producing all the classic tone of the coveted PAFs of the late '50s. Keeping the originals in mind, Gibson Custom employs Alnico III magnets as well as unequal turns of each coils 42 AWG wire for that renowned bite delivered by PAF pickups. Each pickup features independent volume controls, allowing the tone of these pickups to clean up nicely, while the bumblebee tone capacitors facilitate a warm, singing tone when you roll back on the tone controls. Other Gibson Custom's 20th Anniversary Specs include a one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Kluson Deluxe machine heads, hot-hide glue neck fit, a no-tubing Historic Truss Rod assembly, accurate fingerboard/body binding color,  period-correct Aniline dye beneath its nitrocellulose lacquer finish.

Each 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue comes fully protected inside of a Custom Shop hardshell case and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
