You are looking at a Gibson Custom Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Paul, serial number CC10A022. This is the actual guitar you will receive should you decide to purchase. (9 lbs, 1.9 oz)

The Gibson Custom's Collector's Choice Series offers players and collector's an exacting replication of a specific, existing vintage Les Paul. Gibson is able to accurately recreate these historic and prized Les Paul's through meticulous examination of every aspect from the original, from precise measurements and specifications, combined that with the unsurpassed craftsmanship you've come to expect from the master luthiers at Gibson Custom. Each of these Collector's Choice guitars embody the tone, feel, looks and character of a particular instrument down to every scratch and ding.

In honor of Tom Scholz's heavily modified '68 Les Paul, Gibson Custom is proud to present the Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Paul, a perfect recreation of this unique instrument. As the founder of the legendary rock band, Boston, Scholz has proved himself to be a brilliant songwriter, producer and accomplished multi-instrumentalist, selling 20 million copies worldwide of their debut self-tiltled platinum album in '76, to the release of several other platinum albums throughout the years. Although Scholz co-produced and played several other instruments in Boston, he's most widely known for his notable guitar work and distinctive tone, especially in the their first album. Tom's hotrodded vintage Les Paul is a key contributor to the coveted “Boston sound”, with a voice and demeanor unlike any other Les Paul.

Aside from being a talented, well-rounded musician, Scholz graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's and master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tom combined his knowledge of the engineering field with his passion for music-- making a substantial amount of noteworthy mods to his original '68 Les Paul that would set this particular Les Paul apart from the rest. Working closely with Scholz himself, the Gibson Custom luthiers were able to faithfully replicate this one-of-a-kind Les Paul.

Holding true to the original, the Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Paul was crafted from a solid, unchambered Grade-A mahogany with a two-piece plain maple top that's completely stripped of what would've been a gold top finish, revealing nothing but the natural wood of the guitar top. The body finish has also been aged by hand, displaying with the utmost accuracy the exact wear and tear on Tom's own '68 Les Paul down to every nick, scratch and blemish.  Although this Les Paul comes with no pickguard installed, there are even holes drilled in the body where the pickguard would be mounted, just as the original had. The neck is carved from genuine mahogany into the exact neck shape of the original, a chunkier neck profile (in comparison to slimmer '60s profile) that most closely resembles that of the coveted late '50s baseball bat neck.

The CC #10 utilzes the same pickups as the original; Scholz kept the original P-90 pickup in the neck position but swapped out the P-90 in the bridge for a high-output DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucker which is what makes this Les Paul so tonally different from its other siblings. The P-90 pickup delivers the classic tone reminiscent of a time before the creation of the humbucking pickup; yielding a full-bodied tone in the bass and midrange with crisp trebles. On the other hand, DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup is the ideal mixture of tone and power. Invented in '72, these pickups were designed as a way to drive your tube amp to its maximum potential, resulting in a hefty low end, thick highs and a boosted midrange.

As far as hardware goes, Scholz replaced the original Kluson tuners with a set of Schaller M6 tuning machines, which at the time were highly sought-after. The Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz '68 Les Paul also features a classic combination of  an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with a lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, gold top hat knobs with silver inserts.

Not only did Gibson Custom recreate the precise modifications of Tom's '68 Les Paul with unrivaled accuracy, but Gibson Custom has brought the Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Paul even closer to the real thing by incorporating period-correct details of the Les Pauls from the late '60s, including a 14-degree headstock pitch and cream binding that widens with the top edge inside the cutaway as well as employing Gibson Cusom's 20th Anniversary Historic Specs, which feature a single-layer rosewood fingerboard, hot hide glue neck join, accurate fingerboard and body binding color, and a no-tubing historic truss rod assembly.

With no more then 300 replicas made available worldwide, now is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on a flawless reproduction of a Les Paul that's as legendary as its owner. Each of the Collector's Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Pauls come with the full protection of abrown silkscreen Custom Shop hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity.
