You are looking at a Taylor 2013 Fall Limited 516e-FLTD Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric Guitar, serial number 1109043009. This is the actual guitar you will receive should you decide to purchase.

Each fall and spring, Taylor releases a handful of limited edition models that are truly remarkable. Thanks to the random discovery of a rare curly mahogany tree, Taylor adorned this years 2013 fall limiteds with one of the most tonally and aesthetically appealing species of mahogany. Not only was this gorgeous figured mahogany used for the back and sides of this wood, but its refined beauty was the main inspiration for the wood-rich inlay scheme. The 2013 fall limited 516e takes this acclaimed 500 series grand symphony model and integrates this select tonewood and combines that with premium, top-quality features and subtle, yet elegant appointments that accentuate its distinctive, natural beauty.

The back and sides of the 516e are crafted from the finest figured Mahogany, and are beautifully complimented by the European Spruce Top. The Mahogany back and sides give the 516e its ability to obtain a  full, thick midrange while maintaining a deep low end and bright highs. European Spruce yields a distinctive sonic profile when compared to other Spruce species. Visually, it often shares the lighter complexion of Engelmann Spruce but tonally, it blends the headroom and power of Adirondack Spruce with a touch of Cedar's warmth. When combined with the versatile Grand Auditorium body shape and the versatile tonewood Mahogany, the 516e will deliver responsive tones with nice complexity and can match well with a number of different playing styles, from sophisticated chords and fingerstyle arrangements, to strummers with a firm attack. The 516e-FLTD also employs Taylor's premium tone-enhancing CV bracing to contribute to this guitars sweet and responsive tones while facilitating increased tonal depth and maximized projection.

The Taylor 516e-FLTD features a Grand Symphony body shape,  which is known as the ultimate Taylor strummer. The Grand Symphony shape joined the Taylor line in 2006 and delivers a rich, powerful acoustic voice. Think of it as a Grand Auditorium with a turbo boost, thanks to expanded physical dimensions, including a slightly wider waist and a bigger lower bout. Strummers and pickers with a driving attack will love the fullness, volume and sustain. Yet for such a robust voice, the Grand Symphony is also clear and responsive to fast picking runs or a light fingerstyle touch, so if you’re a dynamic player, this shape is a true contender. And the big voice doesn’t come at the expense of balance. The piano-like bass, meaty midrange, and thick, shimmering highs blend seamlessly. If you like a lush, potent guitar tone that has the horsepower to compete with other acoustic cannons out there, the Grand Symphony shape is a worthy choice.

The 25.5" scale neck of the 516e-FLTD is carved from Mahogany into a comfortable, easy to play profile and topped off with a Rosewood bound, Ebony fingerboard and gorgeous Boxwood “Avian” inlays. The 516e also features a bone nut (width: 1 3/4”) and saddle.

The Taylor Expression System 2
The Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s proprietary behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated piezo-electric sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed pro audio-grade preamp, the ES2 produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the ES2 faithfully conveys the voice of a Taylor guitar.

Behind the ES2 Design: Rethinking the Piezo Pickup
For decades, piezo-electric transducers have been positioned under the saddle of a guitar based on the long-held belief that the string and top vibration cause the saddle to “bounce” up and down. But Taylor’s electronics team, led by developer David Hosler, discovered that the vertical movement is actually heavily restricted, and that the saddle gets “locked down” due to the string tension’s downward pressure. That’s why a traditional under-saddle pickup with piezo-electric crystals often responds with a sound characterized as thin, brittle, brash or synthetic, especially with more aggressive playing.

The saddle’s natural range of movement as the guitar is being played is actually back and forth like a pendulum. That revelation led Taylor’s design team to relocate the crystals from under the saddle to behind it. The new positioning enables the crystals to respond more naturally to the guitar’s energy as it is transferred through the saddle. Three piezo sensors are installed behind the saddle, through the bridge, with three tiny Allen screws that calibrate the pressure of the sensors against the saddle.

Like the original Taylor Expression System, the ES2 features the same volume and tone control knobs. The preamp is similar but with a slightly different gain structure. As a result it will be about 25 percent hotter, which is more in line with other pickups. This makes it plug-and-play friendly both for artists and live sound mixers.

To cater to its high-end appearance, the 516e features upgraded appointments including a gloss finished, Rosewood bound body, a Rosewood bound soundhole and peghead, a figured Mahogany top edge trim, figured Mahogany and Boxwood Rosette, a boxwood peghead logo and Gotoh 510 antique gold tuners.

A durable, Taylor deluxe brown hardshell case is included with your purchase of the 516e-FLTD to provide you with the ultimate protection.
