You are looking at a Taylor 812ce First Edition 12-Fret Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar, serial number 1101214016. This is the actual guitar you will receive should you decide to purchase.

The Taylor 800 Series First Edition Models gives their flagship rosewood/spruce 800 series guitars a whole new twist, offering up an expansive array of tone-enhancing refinements by optimizing virtually every element of the guitar's material construction. These refinements include customized bracing and wood thickness' for each shape to bring out the best tonal qualities of each, animal protein glue adhesive for superb tonal transfer, a thinner gloss finish and groundbreaking Expression System 2 electronics, all packaged together with a refreshed design aesthetic. With the rebirth of the 800 series, Andy Powers, designer/luthier behind these instruments, sought to highlight the distinctive characteristics and unique acoustic voice of each different body shape.

The Grand Concert body of the 812ce First Edition 12-Fret is crafted from a Sitka spruce soundboard that's beautifully complemented by Indian rosewood back and sides. The 812ce First Edition 12-Fret still has that focus, balance and articulation that fingerstylists adore, but now combined with revoiced Advanced Performance bracing with the tone-enhancing Relief Rout, the 812ce 12-Fret Grand Concert has some extra warmth in the midrange with impressive volume and a wide dynamic range despite the smaller body size. The  12-fret construction features a modified bracing profile to emphasize a bolder attack and the bridge sits closer to the center of the lower bout, which imparts a slightly meatier, more robust tonal output in comparison to the 14-fret version. If you're looking for a punchier, slightly darker acoustic voice in a small package, this 812ce 12-Fret is the perfect choice. For a beautiful glossy luster without sacrificing tonal response, the body of the 812ce is all dressed up in a 3.5 mils full-gloss finish that's over 40 percent thinner. A smooth venetian cutaway offers a comfortable access to the higher frets.

The short-scale neck of the Taylor 812ce First Edition 12-Fret is topped off with a light-marbled ebony fingerboard. The fingerboard boasts elegant mother-of-pearl Element fingerboard inlays that were inspired by the diamond-like shape of the various 800 series inlays used throughout the years. Exclusive to the First Edition models, the headstock wears a First Edition Element inlay.

This tastefully appointed 812ce First Edition 12-Fret Grand Concert makes use of some of the finest materials available—the body, peghead, fingerboard and heelcap are all bound by pale maple and a matching pale maple back strip adds a nice touch. To showcase the rosewood-rich heritage of the 800 series and the wood's natural beauty, the 812ce First Edition 12-Fret is adorned with stunning rosewood accents which include a rosewood trim along the top edge, a gorgeous rosewood pickguard that's perfectly matched with back and sides, and a stunning green abalone rosette outlined with rosewood.

The Taylor Expression System 2
The Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s proprietary behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated piezo-electric sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed pro audio-grade preamp, the ES2 produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the ES2 faithfully conveys the voice of a Taylor guitar.

Behind the ES2 Design: Rethinking the Piezo Pickup
For decades, piezo-electric transducers have been positioned under the saddle of a guitar based on the long-held belief that the string and top vibration cause the saddle to “bounce” up and down. But Taylor’s electronics team, led by developer David Hosler, discovered that the vertical movement is actually heavily restricted, and that the saddle gets “locked down” due to the string tension’s downward pressure. That’s why a traditional under-saddle pickup with piezo-electric crystals often responds with a sound characterized as thin, brittle, brash or synthetic, especially with more aggressive playing.

The saddle’s natural range of movement as the guitar is being played is actually back and forth like a pendulum. That revelation led Taylor’s design team to relocate the crystals from under the saddle to behind it. The new positioning enables the crystals to respond more naturally to the guitar’s energy as it is transferred through the saddle. Three piezo sensors are installed behind the saddle, through the bridge, with three tiny Allen screws that calibrate the pressure of the sensors against the saddle.

Like the original Taylor Expression System, the ES2 features the same volume and tone control knobs. The preamp is similar but with a slightly different gain structure. As a result it will be about 25 percent hotter, which is more in line with other pickups. This makes it plug-and-play friendly both for artists and live sound mixers.

This Taylor 812ce First Edition 12-Fret Grand Concert features a custom First Edition guitar label and comes with the full protection of a Taylor deluxe hardshell case with a custom First Edition case plate.
