The six-watt Special 6 guitar combo amp gets its powerful tube sound from one 12AX7 preamp tube and one 6V6 output tube, with a 10" VHT High-Sensitivity speaker. It boasts a footswitchable Gain Boost feature that significantly expands its range of tones—it's the only amp in its class that excels at both clean and overdriven tones, and it's the only amp in its class to offer a footswitchable boost. With the Gain Boost, players can instantly toggle between clean rhythm tones and overdriven leads, essentially duplicating the footswitchable functions of a 2-channel amp in an all-tube, hand-wired, simple, 2-knob combo.

To further expand its range of tones, the Special 6 combo also features a High/Low power switch that enhances low-volume tones with extra-smooth richness (when in half-power mode). It's a great feature for recording, or for low-volume "bedroom" players. In high-power mode, it's one of the few amps in its class that is loud enough to compete with a strong drummer.

The mod-friendly VHT Special 6 guitar combo amp is easy to customize for home amp builders and tube-amp enthusiasts.

Comments about VHT Amplification Special 6 6W 1x10 Hand-Wired Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

This baby is aawwesooome! I'm 52 years old and have owned many amps, large and small, from Fender Vibro Champ and HR Deluxe, to Vox Night Train, Carvin Nomad, Peavey Bravo, etc. With all the 2-channel options and master volumes, etc. this gem is the first one I can play out and get the power tube "bloom" without destroying my ears and being constantly told to turn down. I can mic it with my Senheiser E-609 and send all that glorious tone to the board, where the sound guy wants it. The clean tones are very nice as well. With a little reverb and an analog chorus and delay you can cover almost anything you can imagine, and at a volume you can live with. I love this amp and my Strat, Tele, and LP do as well. Now I want to buy another so I can leave it at the church where I play most often. Then I can carry this one around wherever else I go.
