Guitarists both yesterday and today can be linked by one piece of equipment: The tube amp. With all the strides in transistor amp technology, guitarists still prefer tube amps. Why do tube amp designs sound and feel differently from solid-state? Simply, tubes work differently.

These are commonly used as phase inverters in McIntosh Hi-Fi amps, some Ampeg amps, and will yield the most clean headroom in many amps.

In the latest Fender Pro Series amps such as the Pro Reverb, Concert, and Twin, this tube in V2 (or a 12AY7), will drop the gain of the gain channel where some feel the tone is of a less intense or “buzzy” character. This will then allow a much wider range in the sweep of the volume and gain controls of this channel.

Comments about Groove Tubes GT-12AU7 Preamp Tube for Guitar Amplifiers:

I have no idea how good this tube could have been as it arrived smashed. It was packed with a speaker with no packing between the two. Vacumm tubes should be individually wraped with bubble wrap prior to shipping. They can be damaged just by bouncing around in the box even if the glass doesn't break. But in this case it was like putting a bowling ball and an egg in the same box. I guess this review is really about SamAsh's shipping dept and lack of training as how to pack delicate items. They're sending me a new one, I'll see if they bothered to pack it well or just loose in the box. If so I won't be ordering from them again. I know a company that went out of business during the last recession because of poor practices.
