If you yearn for the timeless, jangly sound of an electric 12-string guitar and the clean, biting tone of a Gretsch, then this is your opportunity to possess all of these things in one incredible guitar. The G5422DC-12 Electromatic is a double-cutaway classic that exudes the pure retro-vibe of the Gretsch Hollowbody electric guitars that have been a crucial part of music history. Full and balanced 12-string tone emanates from a laminated maple top, back and sides with bound F-holes and sound-post bracing. This future classic will fit the bill for many different styles and settings and will deliver that distinctive 12-String jangle when you need it.

The electronics schematic features a pair of new “Black Top” Filter’Tron™ pickups. You’ll get tons of high-end twang from the bridge pickup, as well as having the option to switch to smooth, warm blues and jazz tones with bottom-end to spare from the neck pickup. You can use the individual volume controls for each pickup to shape your tone to accommodate any style of music. The G5422DC-12 Electromatic’s controls also include a master volume and tone.

The neck on the G5422DC-12 Electromatic is carved from maple into a comfortable, thin profile that will feel at home in your fretting hand. A bound rosewood fingerboard with luxurious pearl inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets will facilitate total ease of playability. Chrome hardware includes a set of vintage-style open-back tuners, classic “G" arrow control knobs, and a rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge. The G5422DC-12 Electromatic also features a chrome "G" cutout tailpiece. Case not included.

Comments about Gretsch G5422DC-12 Electromatic Hollow Body 12 String Electric Guitar:

I loved the guitar, straight out of the box. Took it out of the box, tuned it, and five days later, still holds its tuning. But the design engineers didn't (well, maybe they did, but didn't do anything about it) think about the position of the strap knob on the cutaway. The guitar just isn't balanced, and I find myself lifting the neck with my left hand while I'm playing. I owned a Country Gentleman, back in the sixties and don't remember that being a problem. I believe, because the 12-string neck is longer (and thus, heavier), that it falls. The original design has the strap knob located on the cutaway, when it would be better to move it to the base of the neck, but that obviously, changes the guitar's classic styling. The alternative is a counter weight inside the guitar's body, or what I did: a scuba, lead, 1 lb. weight on the guitar strap. But it doesn't look so good. Not a conversation piece either. And, the guitar is also heavier, now. But at least, it works. My only worry now, is dinging the wood with the lead weight.
