The Gibson Firebird 2017 T brings back Ray Dietrich's radical design from 1963 with a few modern-day upgrades!

The Firebird 2017 T features the radical neck-through body design that Gibson made famous in 1963. The neck is made from a nine-piece mahogany and walnut laminate that extends from headstock to end pin, forming the central core of the body to maximize sustain and resonance. The body wings are made from Grade-A Mahogany to complete this sleek design. With its nitrocellulose finish and traditional appointments such as the pearloid trapezoid fingerboard inlays, beveled headstock with black central section, and Firebird pickguard motif, today's Firebird is visually indistinguishable from its predecessor of the early '60s, but it roars like no 'Bird before it.

Although the Firebird 2017 T visually stays true to auto designer Ray Dietrich’s original vision from the early 1960’s, this current edition has some cutting edge modern appointments. The original mini-humbuckers have been updated to employ high-output ceramic magnets in place of the Alnico originals. Gibson's 495R and 495T mini-humbuckers are each constructed with coils wound directly around their dual ceramic magnets for added clarity and definition. These give a brighter tone and higher-output.

Chrome hardware on the Firebird 2017 T includes the tried and true Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece combo. The banjo tuners have been replaced with gearless Steinberger 40:1 ratio machine heads for extreme tuning precision. The 2017 Firebird T comes in a protective Gibson Hardshell Case.

Cool new Firebird

I've always been a big fan of the Firebird as well as it's bass counterpart the Thunderbird so needless to say I was excited to see Gibson release this 2017 Firebird T model. You have two really cool finish options with a vintage sunburst and one of my favorite Gibson finishes Pelham blue. Outfitted with a pair of Mini Humbuckers this guitar sounds unique and great. The mini humbuckers have a tone of their own a little more chime and jangle than you'd get from a typical vintage humbucker but fatter than most single coils. Fit and finish are great on this one I found myself noodling for a while on this guitar. If you like something a little off the beaten path that comes in at a great price check out the Firebird 2017 T.

The Firebird is arguably the coolest guitar in the Gibson lineup! The new ones are great and come with a hard case. If you are thinking about getting one, get it! You will not be disappointed.

    Great playing classic guitar

    By

The Gibson Firebird always seems to rise from the ashes every couple years in a new form and this time it's been upgraded to the maximum. The pickups are hotter than ever and scream with sustain and warmth. The neck takes a little getting used to but is slick and comfortable once you get settled in to it's inimitable feel. If you've ever wanted to get your hands on one of these birds, now is the time. The hardshell case is a great addition too, adding to the value of the instrument. I highly recommend this for all players.

    Firebird

This is not the Firebird that Johnny Winter used to play. It is beefed up and plays like a dream. The gearless tuners are amazing and were much needed. The neck is a little narrower than the birds of the past and are fast. I never cared for them in the past, but this one has me wanting one.

The Firebird is built for rock n' roll! This guitar screams with tone from the mini humbuckers. They can provide clean, cutting tones with tons of sustain, and can be driven for solid crunch. The neck through construction provides plenty of sustain and adds to the aesthetic as well. The neck is slim and fast playing making for a very easy playing guitar. The style is classic and looks like it's ready to fly. It's hard not to stare at such a stunning guitar design.

      Rock Machine

This thing has all the style and looks of classic firebirds. Many people think the classic firebirds seem to be a bit muddy, with their mini-humbuckers. However, these redesigned mini-humbuckers pack a bit more punch and clarity than you're probably expecting, so that these guys sound a bit more rock and roll, similar to a high end SG. They're great for anything from the Stones to the Foo Fighters.

The neck on this guitar is really slick and it feels really great. The mini humbuckers have such a full tone and they are HOT. Cleans sound really great but when you put the gain up, this bird SINGS! Super light and feels great as.

This is the Firebird you've been looking for!

I just love the look of this guitar and the attention to detail is second to none. Gone are the gigantic banjo tuners, they now ship with gearless Steinberger tuners which were easy to figure out a string change on and seem totally bulletproof. For some reason I never thought something that conjured up the feel of Airstream trailers and Route 66 diners could have such a fast neck.
        Awesome!
