Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

This is a great student flute for an adult or child. My younger sister bought one of these for her 7th grade school band and really loves it. It was so popular that 2 other students are now playing them. They like the overall sound and feel that it is a quality flute and parents love the price. I am a staff reviewer at Sam Ash Muisc

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

This is a great beginning flute for the price! It' silver plated, closed holed, and it comes with a case! There are a lot of "student level" instruments on the market right now, and a lot of them are barely playable. This is a well made flute for someone who is interested in learning to play flute, but may not be ready to invest a huge amount of money just yet. I'm a sales associate at Sam Ash Music Ontario.

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

I have been playing flute for over a year now, and I gotta say, this flute is excellent for any beginning player. You really cannot beat the price, plus it is great for younger players with under-developed hands. The offset-G makes playing this flute easier for any young player. This silver plated flute has a nice, rich tone that facilitates playing from the start! It comes with a very nice case, cleaning rod, and cleaning cloth, which gives this flute even more bang-for-your-buck! Overall, I would definitely recommend this flute to any beginning flute player! This is a great flute at a phenomenal price!

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

The Jean Baptiste student flute is a great beginner flute for any student. It has a very comfortable fingering system that is especially easy for small hands.

Playing wise the flute is very free blowing and does not require extensive effort to produce a good sound. It is a great fit for elementary/ middle school players.

The only drawback to the flute is the need for adjustment. I would recommend getting the flute professionally cleaned and adjusted every 6 months to ensure optimal playability.

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

As a brass player myself, I find this flute is surprisingly easy to play. The silver plating adds a nice warm tone compared to nickel plated flutes. Since it is adjusted in a shop before it arrives at the stores, it is ready to play right out of the box. The offset G gives ease to younger players whose hands are smaller.

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

This is the perfect instrument for your beginner flutist. The action on the keys is very good throughout. It has a nice warm town in the lower end and a bright upper register. The case is very durable and it even comes with a cloth to keep it clean. Don't be thrown off by other reviews. All instruments need adjustments and pad replacements. If you get our extended warranty, that is all covered. This flute should do a beginner well until they are ready to upgrade to a B foot and open holes after outgrowing this flute.

This flute was bought for me in my beginning band year because my dad wanted to make sure i would stay in music.
This flute requires countless adjustments and repairs. In the first year i had it it need countless repairs (luckily a my teacher would do them for free). By my 4 year of playing i had had it repaired by teachers about 10 times and took it to be repaired 1 time. repaying this flute will cost more than the flute it self. and i wasn't a often player of the flute because i switched to a different instrument my 3 year of music. I kept my flute dry and clean when i used it and when i didn't, like musicians are supposed to, but this one is horrible. Replacing the pads will cost more than the flute. Screws will start to fall out by the second year of playing it in a band class.

Comments about Jean Baptiste JBFL284 Silver Plated Student Flute:

I've had this flute since 4th grade, and I'm currently a freshman in high school. I must say, I have put this flute through A LOT, between subjecting it to quite a few drops in 4th and 5th grade, to not very consistent cleaning in middle school, and now to marching band in high school. And it's lasted me this long, with pretty good sound. It was GREAT in elementary school, even my band director said so. However, in middle school, it started going down. I quit the band at school, because I really didn't like the director, and instead, switched to private lessons. My teacher said that the flute wasn't very good quality, and I was better off getting a higher end, brand name flute. However, I had decided that I was going to quit private lessons and join marching band when high school started anyways, so I ignored her suggestion. Boy, was I wrong. When I joined marching band, my flute was ALWAYS the one out of tune. It was always 20 sharp, so I began pulling the head joint out A LOT when I assembled my flute. It was still 20 sharp. I tried a bunch of different things both suggested by my section leader and my band director to get in tune, but they only worked sometimes. I began playing very quietly to try to blend in with the rest of the band, and thus, not blare my out-of-tuneness to the world. When concert season started though, my solution to the problem didn't work anymore. I tried and tried and tried to stay in tune, but even if I was PERFECTLY in tune, or close to it, in the beginning of rehearsal, by the end, I would be at least 15 sharp or 15 flat. So, if you bothered to read all this, and you've reached this far (as you can see, I'm very long winded), or if you just scrolled all the way down to the bottom, I'll sum it all up for you in a few sentences: This flute is great for someone who isn't sure if they want to stick with flute. It's cheap, and it's wonderful in the beginning. However, if you are a beginner and know you want to play for many years to come, I recommend picking up something that is a name brand, even if it is used. They are better quality, and will last longer. I, myself, will be getting a new flute tomorrow, probably a Yamaha, because this one just isn't cutting it anymore.
