Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH Floyd Rose Electric Guitar:

This is a very cool guitar for the price. The Floyd feels nice, the set-up is good and the neck feels great for a strat fan like myself. I ended up loading it with EMGs to complete the metal vibe of the instrument.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH Floyd Rose Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for my own personal embarrassment since the age of 14. My first electric was set up in the HSS formation, and I loved the fat sound of the humbucker. After I had been playing awhile, I bought an American made Stratocaster Deluxe with Lace-Sensor pickups (all single-coil). I still own the guitar today. I replaced the bridge position gold lace-sensor with a Red, that was supposed to be like a humbucker. I loved the sound, but it just wasn't "fat" enough for me and started my search for an affordable guitar with a traditional humbucker in the bridge position at the very least. After searching the internet for possible candidates I found the Fender Blacktop HH Floyd Rose.

I was reluctant to purchase the guitar from mail order at first. After watching several videos on YouTube, I figured I would give the guitar a shot. When the guitar arrived, I promptly removed it from the box. The shipping folks must have been a little rough with it because the tremolo was not sitting in the fulcrum screws correctly. It was an easy fix. The next issue was the string height out-of-the-box. The strings were easily 1/4" - 3/8" off the neck in the higher frets. When I went to adjust the string height, I found the truss rod was extremely loose. I also found the neck-tilt screw to be extremely loose. After messing around with the guitar for a week, I finally got the string height comparible to my American made Strat Deluxe.

The sound of this this guitar was unbelievable. I was very impressed. It sounded good through both of my amps (a Fender Power Chorus and a Line 6 Spider IV 120). Having the ability to split the humbuckers gave the guitar a variety of sound capable. The Fender Blacktop HH Floyd Rose handled every style of music that I could throw at it flawlessly. As much as I hate to say it, I found myself reaching for this guitar over my much more expensive American made Strat because of the variety of tones that it could produce.

Here is a breakdown of the 5 position selector:
1st position - Neck Humbucker
2nd position - Neck Humbucker Split (Inner coil)
3rd position - Neck/Bridge Humbucker Split (2 inner coils)
4th position - Bridge Humbucker Split (Inner coil)
5th position - Bridge Humbucker

Sadly, I only had the guitar for a month. I decided to change the strings, and that is when I found a terrible flaw in the guitar (Tremolo to be more precise). When I loosened the screw for the low E, in the Floyd Rose Tremolo that holds the string in place, the threads came out with the screw. Someone obviously over-tightened it into the saddle from the factory. I was unable to replace the string. I called Sam Ash to report the problem. The person on the other end of the phone was very understanding, and offered me a refund. However, I was not interested in a refund, and was adament about receiving an exchange. I liked this guitar, and wanted another one just like it. Despite the issues, I was still impressed enough to want another one. Hopefully the new one will be up to my liking as well.

On a side note, I had a few friends make cracks to me about it being made in Mexico. I tell them that it is still an American made Strat..... A South American made Strat. I had no qualms what-so-ever of its country of origin. Despite the issues it was still a good quality instument for an affordable price, and was well worthy of the Fender marque.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH Floyd Rose Electric Guitar:

I reluctantly bought this through mail order, but after watching several YouTube videos I decided to give it a shot. When I received the guitar, it looked as though someone threw it around in delivery truck. The bridge on the Floyd Rose was not sitting properly on the screws. After repairing that problem, I was on to the next. The String height was extremely high, the truss rod and neck tilt screw was loose. After messing around with the adjustments for a few days, I finally got it to where it was close to the same feel as my American made Stratocaster Deluxe. I enjoyed playing it daily for about a month. The sound was great through either one of my amps (Fender Power Chorus, and Line 6 Spider IV 120). It managed to sound good no matter what style of music I threw at it. The ability to split the humbucker gives you the ability to give it a more traditional Strat sound, which broadens the sound spectrum that is attainable. I found myself playing this guitar over my American made Strat just because of the variety of sounds I could generate.

Sadly, the first string change started out with disaster. When I loosened the screw to remove the Low E string on the Floyd Rose, the threads in the saddle came out with the screw. This made it impossible to install a new string. Whoever put it together obviously over-tightened the screw. The folks at Sam Ash were very understanding, and offered me a refund. After spending so much time with the new Strat, I really did enjoy playing it, and I opted for an exchange rather than getting a refund. At the present time, I am currently waiting for my new Blacktop Strat to arrive. Despite the set-backs I do like the guitar, it was very affordable, and had a great sound. I hope the new one comes soon, and does not have the issues the first one did. I can see myself playing it for many years to come.
