Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

Ripped open the box, plugged into a Fender Rumble 150 and literally almost blew the roof off. The pickups are hot! The rafters were vibrating. I had to turn down the amp volume from where I usually play. Everything worked, both volumes and tone. Along with the Jazz shaped body, black with black pick guard outlined in white this a beautiful bass guitar when combined with all the chrome. The action was too high so I turned to the Fender owners manual that makes it specific and easy to make this bass just the way you want it. First I straightened the neck to .015 just above specs, then because I noticed that there was still some slight string buzz I raised the string height slightly. I would rather have a straight neck and adjust the string height at the bridge. I believe that this makes intonation and playability easier. The pickups were so hot that I backed them off below specs just so my windows wouldn't blow out. After all this the intonation was easy. I let it sit for ten minutes before retuning and ripping into this serious bass for two hours. When set up professionally this bass rivals and exceeds basses twice it's price. I intend to use this bass live and in the studio.
