The Gibson Explorer delivers iconic, timeless Gibson style that is still cutting edge.

Upon its introduction in 1958, the Explorer was received with shock and bewilderment. Along with its companion, the Flying V, no one had ever seen or expected to see a design that was quite that radical. Fast forward 20 years and the Explorer suddenly reappeared and became a staple of the rock world where it has remained and has reached permanent iconic status. The Gibson Explorer has withstood the test of time and changing trends in player preferences.

This new rendition of a legendary design carries high-output humbucking pickups: a 496R in the neck position and a 500T in the bridge. These ceramic magnet pickups deliver everything from heavy crunch to wailing lead tones with endless sustain that modern metal-players demand, while achieving sweet tonal nuances when desired.

The Gibson Explorer still retains that classic Gibson construction. A solid mahogany body provides the blend of warmth, depth and richness that has made it a favorite with players for more than half a century, while the glued-in neck enhances resonance and sustain. It offers a sweetly fast and comfortable feel, too, thanks to its high-speed SlimTaper profile.

A control array of two independent volume knobs and a master tone, along with Gibson's traditional three-way toggle switch, provides plenty of sonic versatility without ever getting in the way. Add it up, and it's one of the most powerful and versatile performance tools available for today's heavy rocker, and a sweet looking ride on top of it all. To protect your investment, a gig bag is included with your purchase.

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case:

So I didn't really know hart to expect when I went looking for an Explorer. Turns out the guitar has a great sound – and stays in tune better than any guitar I own. I really like the neck – and the pickups are really hot.

My problem with the guitar is the shape – which if course is also the appeal. It's just impossible to sit around and play this guitar. The body is HUGE and doesn't really fit on your leg in front of the couch.

I guess I'd say – if you're mostly playing in a band – or standing – GREAT guitar, if you're sitting in front of the TV noodling, only a good guitar. Still, it's an Explorer – you know?

This guitar is amazing! These pickups are the same ones Buckethead uses. The action is better than I could have ever imagined! This is a beautiful guitar and I highly recommend it.

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case:

I got this when I was a teen in 1990. I abused the hell out of this guitar, which I regret. Nevertheless, besides the extensive chips in the paint, the guitar performs flawlessly, leaving nothing to be desired. The pickups sound especially good in this guitar. (I have the same pickups in a Flying V, and they don't sound as good.) The guitar is extremely comfortable to play. It sits on the knee well. It's perfectly balanced. There's a place to rest your forearm when picking. Love it.

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case:

I have been playing for 27 years. I classify guitars into 2 classes. Ones that you have to fight to make it do what you want, and ones that don't. This is the latter. It really is an extension of your mind. You think it, and it flows out your fingers and thru the guitar with no effort. Our sets on stage are theme based. We start with 60's & 70's classic rock, then 80's metal, Seattle grunge and close with current rock hits. I used to have a guitar for each set. No more. I have one back-up on-stage in case something breaks, thats it. From the Led Zepplin's the Lemon Song to Van Halen's Pound Cake, it sounds great. Thanks Gibson, you've got a winner and a classic for all time. To all axemen and axewomen: Don't squander cash and time. Save your dough and get the good stuff. You'll be glad you did. Peace.
