Comments about ESP LTD ST-203 Electric Guitar:

I own both the ST-203 3-Tone Sunburst and the ST-213 Rosewood 3TB. Both have great tone because of their Alder bodies and Maple Rosewood necks. The LS-120 pickups are the perfect match for Alder wood. Set the bridge pickup heights to 4/64 on the treble side and 5/64 on the bass side and the neck and middle pickup heights to 5/64 on the treble side and 6/64 on the bass side for a good starting point for balanced tone. You will need a tech to adjust the nut, which was too high on both guitars, and move the treble tone control from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup in order to cut the high end on the bridge pickup. I set my bridge pickup treble cut from 30% to 40% off which makes overdrive tones sound amazing - not ice picky. When you do this mod, all three pickups will have balanced tone for clean and overdrive tones. I can now use all 3 pickups in one song if I want! One last thing, ESP has it down on 12-inch radius necks. I can set a nice low action at the 12th fret to 4/64 on the treble side and 5/64 on the bass side without freting out on string bends anywhere on the fretboard. Both necks were identical spec wise, so ESP has excellent quality control compared to some strats that begin with F. If you want a nice classic strat tone with jumbo frets, 12-inch radius neck that is fun to play guitar solos on, and great tone for classic rock, blues, jazz, or country music, then the ST-203 and ST-213 with a couple mods are excellent low-cost strats that sound and play as good as guitars costing 3, or 4, times as much. I've played guitar for over 30 years, and these guitars impress me as some of the best low-cost designed guitars I have ever played. Thank you, ESP. Your guitar designers obviously know how to play guitar because everything you need in a strat is here.
