The Legendary Acoustic is Back and Better than Ever!

Since it's introduction in 1958, the Epiphone Texan has been the choice of countless musicians including Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton and Noel Gallagher. In fact, McCartney wrote and performed one of the most recorded and popular songs ever, "Yesterday" on his 1964 Texan. Now, Epiphone brings back the Texan combining all the great features of the original with modern updates for today's musician.

It all starts with the classic sloped-shoulder or Advanced Jumbo (AJ) shape.
Unlike ordinary dreadnoughts, the Texan features a more rounded upper bout and a larger lower bout with a subtle waist. Resembling a bell shape, this leads to a more balanced tone with shimmering highs, deeper lows and clearer mid-range that's perfect for singer/songwriters and other solo performers. Like the original, the new Texan features a premium solid Spruce top with a solid Mahogany back and Mahogany rims. Solid woods resonate beautifully and only improve with age. The neck is solid Mahogany topped with a Rosewood fingerboard adorned with the original parallelogram inlays. Hand-fitted and glued into the body, the neck features Epiphone's SlimTaper neck profile that's comfortable and easy to play. Keeping the guitar in tune are original-style but updated 14:1 ratio vintage tuners with classic small oval buttons. Epiphone has even reproduced the original blue rectangular sound hole label from the 1960's for yet another touch of authenticity.

Epiphone adds some new features that sets this Texan apart.
First, the saddle has been updated to feature a fixed, compensated saddle. Unlike the original adjustable style, this saddle provides improved tuning accuracy and better string vibration transfer to the top resulting in improved tone and sustain.  And for today's player, Epiphone adds Shadow's state-of-the-art Sonic preamp system with the revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup to allow acoustic players to "plug in."  Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the Sonic preamp features an easy-access volume control with high and low EQ controls. There's also a "phase" switch that instantly cuts feedback without affecting tone. The Nanoflex pickup is the only pickup that senses both the vibrations of the strings and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously. The sound is truly "acoustic" combining accurate body and string tone with percussive attack. It's like having a microphone mixed with an under saddle pickup! Due to active amplification directly at the pickup and 100% shielding of the entire system, there is no signal loss and no "hum" created. A battery indicator LED turns on when the battery is low and should be replaced within 30 minutes. Powered by two 2032 lithium batteries, the complete system is extremely light and weighs far less than ordinary 9V systems. A premium Shadow output jack is incorporated into the endpin jack and the entire electronic system is covered by Shadow's 5-year worldwide parts and labor limited warranty. Case not included.

Combined with Epiphone's Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson's 24/7/365 Customer Service, the new Inspired by 1964 Texan acoustic/electric reproduces a vintage classic while providing years of worry-free enjoyment.

Comments about Epiphone 1964 Texan Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar last Saturday at Sam Ash's. From all the acoustic/electric guitars hanging in the shop this was the best sounding guitar. It plays very nicely and sounds even better when plugged in. It has built in bass, treble and volume dials. As to the action mentioned by the other reviewer, a guitar to 99% needs a custom setup that matches the players style and likings. I always do my own setup and now the guitar feels exactly the way I want it to be.

      A steal

Comments about Epiphone 1964 Texan Acoustic Electric Guitar:

Got the guitar at my local Sam Ash store. [...] the fit and finish of the guitar is perfect. String action good, made a small adjustment to the neck once I got home and it plays like butter. Loud, ringing tone with excellent sustain. Plugged in to an acoustic amp, the sound was again top notch. Very nice high gloss finish and the access to the controls is easy enough. A solid top, solid back guitar with Bone nut and saddle at this price is an absolute steal. I've always preferred the advanced jumbo shape over the dread shape because it's more comfortable. It sounds great now, can't wait to hear it as it opens up a bit.

High action, and back neck angle

Comments about Epiphone 1964 Texan Acoustic Electric Guitar:

Just received the natural finish version yesterday. It looks great, but it has a bad neck angle and a poor set up from the factory. I'm worried that over time, the action will get even higher as the top starts to wear in. The saddle slots can be filed a bit lower, but I'm thinking about sending it back and exchanging it for another one. I would like to see if another one would have a better neck set.
