Featuring EMG-81/85 Active Pickups!

This futurist Explorer is “1984” come to life with a classic form that stands out on stage and with a sound that totally erases the past. Originally introduced in 1958, the Explorer’s radical and futuristic body shape has since been adopted as the instrument of choice for hard rock and metal players. With a sleek new update of the classic design combined with high output EMG pickups, the “1984” is a whole new Explorer.

Get Out There:
The 1984 Explorer EX features a solid mahogany body for a light but balanced weight that’s perfect for long hours on stage and in rehearsal. Mahogany also gives the “1984” EX subtle tonal shades and biting sustain when played at loud volume. The mahogany neck is hand-fitted and glued into the body. It features a 24.75” scale length rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium/jumbo frets, a 1.68” nut width, and a radius of 14”. You'll also notice the "1984" Explorer has no pickguard, giving the guitar a sleek, uncluttered and modern look.

Premium Electronics:
The “1984” EX’s Big Brother tone comes from one Active EMG-85 neck pickup and one Active EMG-81 bridge pickup. The EMG-85 uses two Alnico magnet-loaded coils with a wide aperture for a beefy low end and a fat top end. The EMG-81 pickup is designed especially for lead guitar and excels at high volume overdrive. Distortion during lead passages is consistent with long sustain and smooth breakup fades. The Active EMG pickups excel at pushing any amp into overdrive. The EMG-81 features ceramic magnets and close aperture coils for a ringing sustain and high end cut. The combination of both the neck and bridge positions make for head ringing that will cut through any stage volume. A hinged compartment on the back makes changing the active pickup’s 9-volt battery easy. The pickup selector is an Epiphone all metal three-way toggle switch.

Solid Hardware:
Controls feature all black hardware and are straight-forward with Master Volume and Master Tone, making blends and volume adjustments quick.  Like all Epiphone electric guitars, the “1984” Explorer EX includes Epiphone’s trademark LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and LockTone Stopbar tailpiece, which provide solid string tension and quick tuning accuracy. Tuners are Grover with metal buttons and Epiphone’s own exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. Case not included.

Epiphone’s “1984” Explorer EX is covered by the famous Epiphone Lifetime Limited Warranty and is backed by 24/7/365 Customer Service.

The EMG 81/85 pickups are the special ingredients of the recipe for a kick a_ _ guitar/sound.
The clean is compatible with every sort of music, since blues till thrash metal.
I use a Metal Core Boss distortion and an Orange amp...it sounds so heavy and clean at the same time. You can describe every little note you're playing.

That's perfect...a guitar for the whole life!

Comments about Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about 9 months ago as a replacement for my old guitar. When I went to the store and bought it, the action was already set to a perfect spot, and it sounds amazing with the EMG 81 and 85 pickups. After a few customizations, even when I was in my church playing, people called this guitar bad***. Definitely buy this guitar if you're looking for amazing tone for an even more amazing value.

Comments about Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX Electric Guitar:

This guitar here is my wife. Explorers are just absolutely amazing when it comes to riffs and not to mention, you look like a full born metal-head even if you're sitting down and playing it. It defines "Perfect quality in terms of sound". Only thing I don't recommend is playing solos on this baby for it tends to get out of tune easily if you're into high bends. e.g. Fade to black by Metallica. You can easily play the solo but just expect the G and sometimes the B string to sound horrible afterwards meaning it's completely out of tune.

Comments about Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX Electric Guitar:

I picked up a Gibson explorer at first and thought it was OK. For $1,399 it better be awesome. Then I plugged in this Epiphone and WOW! I almost bought it on the spot! But I'm holding out for an explorer with a tremolo.I put it through some tough chording and solos and it stayed in tune. Actually it stayed in tune better than the Gibson!I love the fact that it doesn't have a pickguard. I think a pickguard ruins the otherwise cool looks of an explorer. Just my opion.I'm disappointed that it only comes in black or white. Also, I'd love to see one with a Floyd Rose on it! That would be SWEET!The active EMG's gave a nice crunch and actually sounded decent for some clean passages. I was impressed.

Comments about Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar because it is basically a copy of the ESP MX220 (which is a copy of an 84 Explorer). The guitar is solid and the tone is great. The action and fretwork wasn't the best out of the box, but after a good setup, it plays great! The EMGs sound like...uh....EMGs. The only things I plan to change is replacing the nut & installing sperzel tuners. This is a great replica of a guitar I have always wanted. BTW, the guitar is a tad thicker (and heavier) than my bro's 76 gibson explorer reissue, but it fits in the gibson hard case perfectly.
